Where to Market Your Romance Novel to Increase Sales: Here are 6 Quick Things I Do When I Release a New Novella

Today, I released Part II of Ruthless Love (an interracial romance). I don't do much marketing of my fiction books, for the reasons discussed here. But following are six pretty quick things I do to get the word out about new releases. It takes about half an hour to do them all if I'm really focused and speed through them.

If I do the two things mentioned in the very last section, it adds another 45 minutes to an hour to the time. Yeah, promoting is a lot of work, but if you have certain things you do on auto pilot, you can streamline it.

I. Post to my Facebook page (for fiction): About three or four months ago, I started buying Facebook ads. I don’t spend a lot of money at all; just $1 or $w per day to boost one or two posts. So those are consistent eyes I'm paying for to come to my page. Hence, announcing new releases here ensures that I'm maximizing that investment.

II. Twitter: I post it to my Twitter account: FYI, another good reason to post to your twitter account is, if you publish on Amazon and have your Twitter profile linked there, it shows up on your Author page. See?

That’s TONS of potential eyeballs over and beyond those who just use twitter. Amazon has customers worldwide, so if you don’t have your Twitter profile linked to your Author profile on Amazon, do so now!

III. My Website: I list in on my site at InkwellEditorialPublishing.com.

IV. Amazon Board: Here's the link to that: https://kdp.amazon.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=34005. Note: This area is specifically for promoting your books. Don’t post in other areas, ie, spam the boards. You’ll get kicked off in a nanosecond!

V. Pinterest: There are a lot of romance readers on Pinterest. It makes sense, when you consider the site's demographics, ie:

Some 28% of online adults use Pinterest, up from the 21% who did so in August 2013. Women continue to dominate the site, as they did in 2013: fully 42% of online women are Pinterest users, compared with just 13% of men. While Pinterest remains popular among younger users, there was an 11-point increase between 2013 and 2014 in the proportion of those 50 and older who use the site.

These demographics happen to coincide heavily with those who read romance.

VI. Order Fiverr Gigs: I have a couple of people I use regularly to promote my books on Fiverr; mostly social media posting cuz there are a lot of, for example, FB reading groups.

I also post here on SheWrites. It may take a few days depending on if I want to do a post (like this one), or just do a straight announcement. I try not to do too many "just" announcements. Readers come here looking for information and I like sharing what I've learned as a self-published author. So it's a balance.

And finally, I send a notice out to my subscribers. From day one, you should start building this list. They will be your most loyal readers – and could provide you a huge chunk of income (once the list grows). I’ll do a more extensive post on the importance of growing your subscriber list as a romance (fiction) writer soon.

Just know, it’s huge – so get busy growing it now.
