"Listen To Your Mother" Portland
Contributor

I continue to be fascinated by how many different directions my writing takes me. It's especially gratifying when the same piece of writing benefits a worthwhile cause.

Here's the scoop: (Via my blog at www.thesecondhalfonline.com

One of the many things I am grateful for at this point in life is that I haven’t lost my capacity to still get reeeeeeeally excited about different things … like participating in a show that features live readings by writers “on the beauty, the beast, and the barely-rested of motherhood, in celebration of Mother’s Day.” Beginning as a one time performance in the east, this show has spread like proverbial wildfire all across the nation. It’s that special.

So when I walked out of my audition for the “Listen To Your Mother” in Portland (http://listentoyourmothershow.com/portland) I was riding high. I found myself sort of floating down the sidewalk, happy for the experience of meeting two amazing women, Carisa Miller, the director and Kelli Martinelli, the producer. But I was also utterly buoyed by my connection with the other women who were auditioning. No doubt about it, I left feeling a little giddy at the thought of being selected to participate.

Of course, by the time I made it to the corner, I also realized that I really wanted to make the cut. I sure didn’t feel it was in the bag. Not by any means.

The call came the following Monday. These two creative, dedicated women believed my story was worth sharing. I must have sounded about ten years old. (Yes, I was that excited.)

The fun has already begun! My fellow cast members are a remarkable lot. I can hardly wait to hear their stories! And, here’s the frosting on the cake. Like all LTYM productions, a percentage of the proceeds are donated to a worthy organization. Portland Women’s Crisis Line will be on the receiving end of this show.

Maybe you want to start thinking about your Mother’s Day plans now? Portland is beautiful in the spring or for those of you who live in the area, I think this promises to be an entertaining, fun, and very worthwhile celebration. The show will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, at the lovely Alberta Rose Theater in Portland. (Tickets are available at: http://bit.ly/N1sRlw)

Hope to see you there! Can't join us in Portland? Then please check out other cities because LTYM is now all over the place!
