Contributor

Teresa Carbajal Ravet, owner of Dulce Bread & Book Shop has been a member of Las Comadres Para Las Américas for over ten years. The organization’s mission is “connecting and empowering Latinas everywhere through community building, networking, culture, learning, and technology.” This group of Latinas, led by Nora Comstock, began as an informal gathering of Latinas in Austin and grew with the inspiration and labor of love of Ms. Comstock. The initial idea was to take the Latina gathering nationally and internationally, with the aid of the World Wide Web, and create a network of support, through education, resources, and empowerment for all Latinas.

In April Las Comadres Para Las Américas will be hosting its 3rd WorldWide Comadrazo. On April 29th and 30th Comadres from across the United States and abroad will be gathering in Austin, Texas. With the opportunity to strengthen friendships as well as obtain professional development, Las Comadres will be celebrating its 11th anniversary. The WorldWide Comadrazo will be host to 400 Latin@s at the Goodwill Industries of Central Texas located at 1015 Norwood Park Boulevard. Opportunities and activities are plentiful, with a full two-day schedule that includes, diverse vendors, exhibitors, talent show, fashion show, author readings, book signings, roundtable discussions, Comadritas (young Latinas) workshops, and more!

The registration fee for an individual is $75 for both days, $40 for Friday only, and $50 for Saturday only.  The registration includes snacks and lunch on Friday, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday. Moreover, do not let this fee be a barrier as scholarships are available for those Comadres in need of assistance, contact Las Comadres. In addition, if lodging is a concern, a Hostess Matching option is also available to all out-of-town Comadres. Austin Comadres have opened their homes and will be matched to be paired up accordingly.

Dulce Bread & Book Shop is organizing Las Comadres & Friends Book Club’s Book Nook for the WorldWide Comadrazo! Las Comadres & Friends Book Club, in partnership with the Association of American Publishers, promotes the reading of Latin@ authors. With this goal in mind Dulce invites all Latin@ authors to participate in author readings & signings throughout the two days. Please contact Dulce to get on the schedule and register for the WWComadrazo on April 29th and 30th.
