Want to tackle essay writing? Want to look at creating or revising your essays to work in a whole new way? Want to take an essay that you've been tweaking forever and give it real legs? This online workshop is for those who want to test or refine their essay skills. In this four-week session taught by author and essayist Andrea King Collier, you will work on at least one piece to get it ready for prime time.
At the end of the session, you will have at least one polished piece and some solid ideas on where to send it for publication, if you stay focused. This could be the start of a whole new revenue stream of work, open up the doors to a memoir, or help you flex your creative non-fiction voice for fun.
What’s New…
I am offering new lessons, and a host of new markets. We’ll also talk about tailoring your essays to paying online markets. We tailor the class totally to your needs. Traditionally there are “lectures” and then you hand in an assignment or something you want to work on. There is also a forum for writers to post their work and comments on each other’s work. I post the assignments but I also email them to you. You will need to email it back to me, if you want me to look at anything. For an experienced essayist, the beauty is that it is totally one on one. If you just want to work on a couple of pieces that you have struggled with and want to ramp up your voice, then it is perfect. If you want to start something new and want to go deeper then it is perfect. But it is really you and me. It feels a bit like having a private essay coach for a month.
Class participants have had great successes with placements in the New York Times, O the Oprah Magazine, Smithsonian, NPR, the New Yorker, Self, Vogue, Real Simple, Hallmark and others.
Class will be conducted from September 7-October 5. Tuition is $ 159 for FLX or ASJA members and $200 for non-members and includes a phone consultation on your work and your essay goals. Please contact me in advance of signing up. Email is HYPERLINK "mailto:andycollier11@comcast.net"
