Good question, Martha!  My first thought was, they have to be born because who else would put themselves through this but people genetically predisposed to torture--I mean creative writing :-).

Then I thought, bestselling writers are a whole different category.  I think bestselling authors can be made because its all about the media and how many people you can get to read the book, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the best, or most gifted, writers.

So... I guess i have no answer.

Hi Ava,

thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.  I brought up the question because I've been promoting books to bestseller on Kindle.  I've been writing and promoting.  I've been writing. I was always winning awards--now that's about good writing.  But what about bestsellers.  I've read some bestselling books that were so banal, so shallow.  So, as you say, they are almost two different animals.  Bestsellers can be good books, but they don't have to be good books.  How do they make the list?  They plan it.  I'm going to prove it with the 6 writers in my campaign.

I'd love to have you.

I love a question that gets me thinking. Being an author is such a wacky profession...don't get me wrong, I love being an author, but it just seems like no one in their right mind would just decide one day to write a book and then publish it. I'm a big believer in faith, but I also believe in making your own destinty. With all that said (I know I'm rambling), I think writers, great writers are born, but they do with that craft is completly up to them.

Brittany, thank you so much for your answer.  It's really so on-the-nose.

Umm, where is your blog? Most writers forget to tell people where to find them.

Melissa, thank you so much for your meaningful reply. I agree with you and

can prove it.  Now I want to add a new question. How do you feel about "making" YOUR OWN bestseller?

Tell me your daily routine and new goals.

Made... through effort and serendipity

Suzy, you're so right.  And since that is proven to be the case, why do 91% of all

writers settle for ordinary sales?  Is it fear of success, lack of knowledge, laziness,

lack of tools and expertise?

It's the luck of the draw... or keyboard, in our case.
