I've been writing about my life here in Guam since I arrived here in 2003. I started a thread on a folk music website intending to share my experiences with friends. I certainly didn't expect to be still writing seven years later.
And I didn't expect my friends, and the other readers who came along, to ask me to put that thing into book form. They keep telling me to just publish the "blog" but that doesn't seem right to me. And I have no idea what genre it might fit into. I suppose it could be a memoir but I think of those as being more focused on emotional growth. While I have grown emotionally as well as (unfortunately) physically that growth doesn't seem to be the right focus for what I've been through here.
I suppose it could be travel writing except I am not traveling. I am settled and working (more or less). I own a very nice house with my wife and our three cats. I'm not traveling.
It's certainly not adventure writing. The most adventurous thing I've done recently is to enroll at the local university in a Master degree program.
If you are interested in seeing what I'm talking about check out the thread on Mudcat.org. All my threads include the name of the island, Guam. My name on the website is naemanson. I'll see if I can post some examples of my stuff on my page here on SheWrites.
