My love for dogs began with my first one, Duchess. My mom said she was part Samoyed and part handsome stranger (didn't know the other breed). A loveable loyal dog. My neighbor worked with a shelter and often brought puppies home until they could find a permanent place. On my visits there I had played with them, held and loved them. She also had a few of her own dogs. I use to let them chase me around her backyard and pretend they were sharks and climb her tree to escape. Puppies would lick me and tug on my hair when I laid down on the floor. When I got up they clung onto my legs by wrapping their paws around them. They seemed to want me back on the ground for play. Puppies have a smell too a distinct newborn scent. So adorable. Now years later, I have a Samoyed of my own. She is loyal and loveable like my first dog. Dogs love you unconditionally from the moment they lay eyes on you. Wanting to please you and be loved. They are pure joy. The picture shows Bianca playing in the snow which she is fond of. Howling her song. She makes me smile by just being there. Thank God for Dogs.

My dog is a German shepherd named Louie. He and I are featured in Marshal Zeringue's blog, Coffee with a Canine. Many of his blogs are about writers and their dogs.

Thanks! And thanks to him. He did inspire me, in so many ways. It's so interesting how the dogs we knew as children stay with us into adulthood. I remember a Scottish terrier named Kilty like that.
Permalink Reply by Rica Lewis on January 9, 2012 at 7:14pm Yes, Thank God for Dogs! My Carlo has changed my life. I never thought I'd be one of those crazy pet parents (think dog sweaters and pet portraits). Alas, I am wholly converted.
Your Bianca is gorgeous.

Permalink Reply by Kate Barker on January 12, 2012 at 6:04pm Totally agree Colleen, dogs are a woman's best friend. As you can see from my profile pic my boy is ever so cute. Not that I'm bias in any way of course lol. I couldn't imagine my life without him either even though he still loves dirty socks and gladly lets me know when he pinches one and I haven't noticed.

Permalink Reply by Katherine Kane on January 14, 2012 at 8:19pm Colleen, I, too, love dogs! All dogs! (although my standard poodle believes I should love no other dog but her). My website is dedicated to dog tips, topics, and resources.
