E-book Vs Paper book - What route should a new author take?

I have been a 'wannabe' author my entire life. My first desire was and is, really, to write children's stories. Well, to write children's stories with self-help morals :)I wrote a few in my 20's, and I don't know if it was fear of success or failure, but I have not truly tried publishing them.

Recently, I have gone through a traumatic experience with my youngest daughter. I have learned of the heart break of trying to protect a child from the abuse she alleges when she is unwilling to trust her voice to people she does not know. The outcome of that is, as a parent, you cannot protect your child then.

Long story short, this has re-fueled my desire and passion to write and to help. I have 4 books lined up that I wish to write and have started on one, it is the story of my choices and my daughter's trauma.

I don't want to procrastinate this time. I do not wish to write and hide it in my closet.

I have looked into E-books, even seen that Amazon allows you to publish e-books like a royalty based paper book publisher does. But, is that a good choice? What is the most effective route for an author?

I thank you all for your advice!

First thank you for sharing your heart and experience.  Know that my prayers are yours and your children's.

Let the words free and do not worry about the way they will drift through the public domain.  E-book vs paper vs ... makes no difference to the words.  The wonderful joy is that publishing is now within reach of all who seek to share their experience, strength and hope with those who may be in need.

The only caution I see is if the message released will turn back on your daughter in her prime growing years causing her other issues.  Always remember the physician's pledge - first do no harm...

Your story, when properly written, has more outlets for distribution because of e-book technology and that should bring you encouragement rather than confusion.

I would say both. I recently published and have found different audiences prefer different formats x
