Permalink Reply by Lisa Threadgill on August 15, 2011 at 2:21pm Hello, everyone :-)
My name is Lisa Threadgill. After hemming and hawing and being reminded by a writer friend that I had nothing to lose, I entered my novel Wall of Knives, an alternate history/speculative fiction piece. What I find to be the best thing about the contest so far is to read about the various types of stories and the wealth of experience and enthusiasm.
I'm glad I entered.

Glad to see another speculative/alternate history entrant.
I'm a great fan of Margaret Atwood although I can't dream of being anywhere near as good or as imaginative. But you have to have something to aim at ;-)
Good luck!

I'm very glad to meet someone else who works in spec/alt. I agree, Margaret Atwood is amazing. All I can do is aspire to be the best I can. Some days that is easier than others!
Good luck with your entry as well. :-)

Permalink Reply by Karoline Barrett on August 15, 2011 at 4:01pm Hi. I write under the name Karoline Barrett and I am entering the first few pages of my novel PARK SLOPE.
Permalink Reply by Natalie Boyd on August 15, 2011 at 6:56pm I've been a lurker here on SheWrites for several years, but never actually joined (just enjoyed subscribing to the blog) until this contest came up and I thought, "Why not?"
I'm entering the first 2000 words of my novel The Reckoning, which spans two continents and four centuries in three interwoven stories, all connected by a mysterious book. It's in the "literary thriller" (issues with that genre name, but whatever) category, following the tradition of Carlos Ruiz Zafon (Shadow of the Wind, The Angel's Game) and Elizabeth Kostova (The Historian, The Swan Thieves).
I'm also a PhD student and have a food blog at www.woodenspoonblog.com.
Good luck, everyone!

Permalink Reply by Deborah Armstrong on August 15, 2011 at 8:50pm Hi Everyone - I joined SheWrites in March of 2010. I found this site recommended on an author's blog and thought I'd check it out. I'm so glad I did. I am a member of the Canadian Writers Group, the Chick Lit Group, Books I've Read Group and Farm, Rural and Ranch Group. I started writing two years ago and haven't stopped. My submission is entitled, Forever Love. It's a modern day chick lit story with a twist.
I look forward to chatting with all of you. - Deb
