Help -- Need advice on what to charge for commercial blogging

Hi everyone,

I recently completed two blogging assignments for a company that does snarky gossip websites for various TV shows. The editor chose another writer for the show I'd done the assignments for, but asked me to invoice her for my work anyway. I probably spent 4 hours on it, much of which was research since the show hasn't even aired yet. Being a poet, and used to writing for free, I haven't the remotest idea as to what an appropriate amount would be to invoice. Hoping someone out there can guide me!

Many thanks in advance,

Laurie

I am a ghost blogger, and my fees depend on the genre (more complicated topics=more time=more money). I'm not really sure what the going rate is for that particular topic. In general, though, blog posts that I write that are of average length are generally charged $25-$50 each, though I have one client who likes to pay on an hourly basis and another who pays significantly more for his posts.

Hope that helps!
JoAnna,

That is very helpful. Thanks!
