A lot of boomer women are writing their memoirs, and reading others'. I think many of us have stories to tell, and the work of finding those stories and bringing them to light is so rewarding. I'd love to hear about your stories or memoirs whether completed, in progress, or being contemplated. My article "R You Ready to Write Your Memoir?" will be published on http://www.WomensMemoirs.com on Tuesday, September 7.

Thank you, Pamela! I think your blog is great.

Hi Pamela - 1. Yes I am writing a memoir (but maybe holding somethings back) 2. Publication - very soon of the first of two books, poetry prose which reaches into the boomers age - and growing up! I think a memoir can be in many forms. I simply love writing about being a child in the fifties and sixties, until I learned what older was?
Nancy,

I loved growing up in the Fifties and Sixties, too. Especially, certain things about the fifties, like the "perfect" TV families. I was a total rebel (like many of us) in the Sixties, but buried beneath the radical rebel was a bouncy co-ed in bobby socks just waiting to break loose. (I think it's supposed to be the other way around!)

Congratulations on your new book about to be published. Can you tell me more about it?

Oh - I want to tell the world about it, but I think the publisher needs to confirm the date first. I am one of those who doesn't want to show and tell until its real! Although I am so excited and can't wait to share. It won't be too long now!

Concerning the fifties, I have written one notebook after another, and the sixties well I don't think I have touched that one even if I have in real time.

We were lucky to live in an interesting time. But, the times should reverse again, I am not a war person, never have been, and this one is getting too long and the reasons change. Well not to change the conversation but it brings back the sixties!
For my Monday Morning memoir blog, I interviewed Jan Vallone, whose wonderful debut memoir PIECES OF SOMEDAY recently came out. It's a fascinating story - both the memoir and the story behind it. Go to http://pamelamemoir.livejournal.com
Thanks for opening up this wonderful and supportive source!
Hi Pamela,
I found this interview enlightening and encouraging. It reminds us that rejection is part of the game. My memoir has traveled through four version over the last 15 years, and it's been critiqued (parts of it) in the Hassayampa Institute, Taos, and Antioch writing conferences.

I have hopes that this latest, more focused version will be successful.

Thanks again.
Hi Nancy,

Thanks for replying. I can relate to your long memoir journey -- and all the places it's been critiqued is amazing! Please keep us posted on your progress. Also, if you get a chance, you might be interested in the discussion on memoir proposals (in the memoir writing group.) I'm beginning that process myself and am interested in sharing stories and support. I swear, it seems easier to write a memoir, no matter how many years it takes, than to write the proposal. The only proposals I'm good at writing are for books that I haven't yet written (because then I'm thinking how brilliant they'll be :)
Thanks for this suggestion! I'll certainly join the group. My proposal is about 12 pages, single-spaced, which seems excessive...it was 7, then I added chapter summaries..
It's great to have this conversation. Thanks again!
My memoir "The Chameleon in the Closet, a Conservative Jewish Mother Reaches Out to Her Orthodox Sons" will be available on Amazon in mid-June. Please check out my web-site readbj.com.
Thank you for a glimpse at this fascinating memoir; I visited your website and blog and enjoyed both!

I've written a novel, Arella's Repertoire, and some experimental fiction based on my diaries, letters, and personal remembrances. See, for example, "A Child's Space," from Leah's Belated Hurrah." See http://www.scribd.com/doc/17026154/A-Childs-Space-from-Leahs-Belate...
