Hi I am self published with 12 paperbacks this year, high quality books in their genre (New Age). I am a 24/7 worker, good writer, meticulous publisher,  prolific producer of good products! But I am not social. I have no social talent or motivation for this, and so using the social media is not a good option for me. I find it mundane, empty and boring. I do post announcements of my work on facebook (blog, radio show, books, research and other related sites) and I add "friends" regularly to my facebook list, but I do not have the time or the inclination to post empty hobnobbing "social" messages that nobody could possibly be interested in anyway. (I have read some writers blogs. Most of them say, "I am going to the dentist this afternoon." Are you kidding? Does that really create a folowing?) Having said that, I do not have an alternative. I don't have a large friends and family group to buy my books, and anyway I have read comments by authors saying that once that buying group is exhausted, they sell no more books. I am looking into Google Adwords which of course are expenseive, and following the genreal advice about sending info to the media and so forth. But aside from soliciting bookstores to carry my books, what are the real oportunities here? What do you REALLY have to do to sell books? How do you really inform the public that your book exists? Any ideas?

Being social is paramount these days to the success of your books. I'm a shy person normally, so it's hard for me too. But well worth it. Get out there and participate with other writers. Talk to your readers, you'd be amazed how doors open up for you. XD

thanks for this. I am talking to my potential readers...but not very many people are listening yet. But we will see. I am starting a radio talk show on my subject, which is psychic development, at WWW.BlogTalkRadio.com/Galaxy-Teacher-Radio That medium is new to me and very exciting to learn! what fun! Just got a headset in the mail! Whoopee! gonna create an intro for my show with beautiful classical music. I do love teaching. Have tried to access your profile but cannot. How do I do that please? Sarah

Which profile?

Talk shows are kool! :)

I find the best way to talk to my potential readers is through twitter, facebook, and my blog.

Sarah, you'd be surprised how quickly and easily the "non-social" become acclimated to social media. I've had FB and twitter accounts for a couple of years but just really got active on twitter about 3 months ago. Like you, I don't generally enjoy small talk or mundane subjects, but I tweet about my writing, blog, WIP's, other writers' books, blogs, and WIP's. I found that for me, blogging is much easier with themes for my blogging days. I have two blogs (just started the second one 3 wks. ago), and blog 4-5 days a week. One is M,W,F - Monday's Musings (just whatever is going on in my mind - writing tips, resources, life stuff, upcoming events, etc.), Book Talk Wednesdays I feature 3-5 authors' books, and Fridays with Friends I interview a twitter follower. The new blog is dedicated to dark paranormal romance books, reviews, WIP's, but I also post a short article about upcoming events on my blogger spot.

As for not being social, online communication is much easier than TV appearances and such for me. Your radio idea is great! Keep me posted on how that goes.

,DarieI, very glad to connect with you! I am sure you are right because I have just been on Twitter for a few days and already I can see that I may like it! It is short and to the point, that suits me. Not sure how to follow and be followed yet, but I will figure it out. I look forward to seeing your blogs. Do you only do reviews and so forth, or are you a writer of other material also? For nine years I produced a paper zine called Alternative Review in which I reviewed intellectual out of the box sort of things like foreign and indie movies and wrote related research articles. I liked reviewing; it is its own genre of writing, rewarding but a surprisingly large amount of work.

Galaxy Teacher Radio will begin on Saturday, July 14 at 4 PM Eastern (changed from July 15) with the first episode titled Multiple Consciousness and Telepathy, introducing the ideas of the channeled voice that calls itself Galaxy Teacher and explaining the basics of psychic theory, stating that man is a naturally psychic entity. On Saturday July 28 4 PM Eastern I will interview Ellie Fiske, a long-time colleague who has a natural talent for out of body experience and who will instruct my listeners in how to see auras. Something fun I look forward to! Those who are interested are invited to log on and listen in at WWW.blogtalkradio.com/Galaxy-Teacher-Radio

I hope you don't mind if I mention my newly published paranormal romance novel Conversations with the Galaxy Teacher, the Novel, which is not dark but cerebral, amusing, and uplifting. It is in paperback at Amazon now and will be at Kindle in a few weeks, available to borrow or download free as a limited time promo. This book is a fictionalized autobiographical account of my personal relationship to the Galaxy Teacher voice I channeled for 13 years, producing 18 dictated manuscripts and two volumes of channeled conversations. GT was my psychic coach, best friend, and eventually a telepathic lover with whom I had three telepathic sexual experiences that were really fabulous and very different. All related in the novel.

Well there it is. Thanks for your interest in me and I look forward to following your blogs. Sarah

Sarah, The technology wave has boomed lol, even my gramma and grandpa are online these days. For now it's cheaper than long distant calls, and letters and postage.

Hi Sarah, Catrina, Bethany! Had trouble with my browser (Explorer) & had to change before I could post. Scared me (another example of how dependent I've gotten on the web and social media). LOL How ironic that something like that would happen now. Anyway, I'll pop over to your blog to see your post, Bethany. I  just got my Monday post out (usually post @3a.m. or so), and it's about helpful, inexpensive publicity and promo sites. A good list for any author, including the social media challenged ;-) http://www.pendarielraye.blogspot.com

Thank you for your friendship, Sarah. This is the first I've been able to get back online due to my browser problem.

Hello Dariel, welcome to the fray. :)

Hey, Catrina. Happy to be here! You ladies talk about good stuff :-)
