There is a lot of talk about the tragedy in Aurora and what can be done to keep our homes, streets, schools, places of entertainment safer. Peggy Noonan says its Hollywood and parents who need to stop this rising tolerance for violence our kids endure every day. Others say ban sales of assualt weapons, and still others say we need to work on gun control legislation. Almost everyone says this isn't going to happen. So, given all this, is there a place for Batman at home and in school?
I posted about this ("B" is for Batman) and would love to hear your comments. Without having to link to my blog, while I do believe we should curtail the sale of assault weapons and be more sensitive to violence our kids are exposed to in games, TV, and movies, AND feel there should be better/more effective background checks before anyone purchases a gun or weapon, I strongly believe there is a place for Batman at home and in school. The old Batman TV show, for example, with Adam West is FULL of great lessons - from reading the sound effects to teaching onomatopoeia and solving riddles riddled with puns and word play.
