Hello ladies,
I am considering doing a low-residency MFA programs. Has anyone completed one, and if so, what was your experience? I am looking at programs that are within driving distance of my home: Bennington, Vermont College of Fine Arts and Stonecoast, in Maine. My principal reason for wanting to do a low-residency program is that I'm looking for a place where I can get consistent, quality feedback on my work and join a community of writers. I live in a very rural area of the Berkshires in Massachusetts, and I haven't been able to find any writer's groups here. I've attended Breadloaf and the Wesleyan Writer's Workshop- both were wonderful- but when they're over, they're over. Even if I made friends at these conferences with whom I can share work, it's not doing much to help me progress.
In terms of where I am in my career, I had an agent for my first novel but we've yet to find a home for it. Right now, I'm working on short stories. I've had some success with literary magazines, but I think I would be more successful if I was able to tighten my writing, and share it, more often.
Thanks for listening!
