My humor book How Not To Act Old, based on my blog of the same name, comes out from Harper this week. I'm reviewed in the Wall Street Journal today and also have a mention on the New York Post's Page Six. On Thursday I'll be on the CBS Early Show and I also have new videos up on Youtube. Proudest accomplishment: Only writer on Amazon's Top Ten Humor Bestsellers without a penis.

I am leading a Women's Memoir Workshop in NYC on Saturday, August 29th. Please find details at my website, www.sixtyfiverosesthebook.com, on Facebook at Women's Memoir Workshop, or on She Writes. Fiction writers welcome as well, as the technique I use leads to great pieces that can be adapted for your novel. A full day of writing - come and enjoy!

Whoohoo! Second review for the second Kinkaid (While My Guitar Gently Weeps) is out. PW was the first, this one's Booklist, and I'm batting a thousand:

In the second entry in the JP Kinkaid mystery series (after last year’s Rock & Roll Never Forgets), JP has just come off a tour with his decades-old, enormously successful rock group, Blacklight. As a favor to his friends in the band the Bombardiers, he has agreed to sit in as guitarist while they break in their new lead singer, Vinny Fabiano. Unfortunately, Vinny proves to be something of a prima donna, with pricey gear, “a bad hairpiece, and a huge sodding ego.” Nonetheless, the members of the group are shocked when Vinny is found dead in the studio, his head bashed in with a flaming red, custom-made guitar. Despite the hassles of dealing with the investigation of the murder and flare-ups from his multiple sclerosis, JP determines it’s the perfect time to wed his longtime love, Bree Godwin. Indeed, their emotional romance and the characters’ obvious love of music widen the scope of this novel. From spirited discussions of blues-based rock to inspired moments of band camaraderie, this is definitely a mystery that will also appeal to rock fans. — Joanne Wilkinson

Nice money shot at the end. And no damned plot spoilers!
My first book is now out. HARAM IN THE HAREM: DOMESTIC NARRATIVES IN INDIA AND ALGERIA. Available via Peter Lang Publishers or on Barnes and Noble and Amazon. com.

This is a literary gender study of three Muslim women writers and their use of domestic melodrama to show women as active beings within the house - not meek housewives.

Diane Lockward's article, "Finding Readers: How to Get Your Poetry into Their Hands," appears in the just-released 2010 Poet's Market. The article suggests promotion strategies for poets with books from small presses. Diane will do a book signing for her second collection, What Feeds Us, on Saturday, August 15, at The Fine Ground, 101 rt. 23 / Pompton Ave., Little Falls, NJ.
Congratulations, Pam! All sounds pretty darn fantastic. Love your energy! Enjoy and best to you. Julie

Applause to SHEWRITES: After connecting with Nina Weber, a SHEWRITES writer from Germany, I speeded up my idea to go to Germany to continue research for my novel. I am a writer and poet and this is my first novel. Through our communication on SHEWRITES, Nina has been an enormous resource. I leave for Germany on Sunday! Thank you,

My first collection of poetry, Taste of Cherry, has just been published by University of Nebraska Press. It's available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Taste-Cherry-Prairie-Schooner-Poetry/dp/08032...
This is SUCH great news! I am so happy for you and I love it that you are representing women on the top ten humor list. Would you be interested in doing a post for SHE WRITES about that? I know you are super busy but it would be such a great thing to talk about and share with the group; humor-writing is such an important genre and tool and it's a genre from which women have often been excluded...

Hurrah! That is so cool. Totally what we are trying to accomplish...as we grow these kinds of connections will be made all the more possible.

Hey everybody! My flash magical realism piece, The Moth Collector's Daughter, just went live at Reflection's Edge www.reflectionsedge.com/

Here's an excerpt to get you over there:

Remember, remember when you were born.

When Ti-ti was born, the Aunties came to anoint her with their declarative magic.

“Oh, her fingers are so short she won’t ever play piano,” said Auntie Rosalyn, a piano teacher.

“And look at that widow’s peak,” said Auntie May, touching her own. “She’ll bury at least one husband, I fear.”

Auntie Angela said, “With a wrinkled forehead like that, this one is a thinker. Poor thing doesn’t realize yet she’s only a girl.”

And Auntie Penelope, trying to be a bit more positive, said, “Look at that face! It lights up like the moon. This one has the glow. No one can quell that.”

At the time, no one suspected that all the Auntie’s claims would come true, Auntie Penelope’s most of all.
