As I've mentioned before, my just released book, Goodbye Natalie Goodbye Splendour, is controversial as it tells of an account of the circumstances leading up to the death of the late actress, Natalie Wood. What astounds me, however, are the messages in the "comment boxes" that follow my Amazon.com reviews. I've rarely seen anything like it. Even with the latest Mackenzie Phillips release. Reviewers are trying to maintain peace with each other, but it gets out of hand. I just thought my fellow writers and authors here might want to see what can happen when your book deals with a tough subject, even after you did your best to dot all i's and cross all t's. Hi - just wanted to share my latest piece at The Women's Media Center:

Coming to Terms with the "F Word"
At this year’s annual Omega women’s conference in Rhinebeck, New York, participants reached across generations to empower themselves and their communities. The authors spoke to two of the younger “trailblazers.”

I just signed a contract for a devotional to be published in "Faith & Finance: In God We Trust." This will be my third devotional to be picked up for print publication, and I'm very excited.
Hi

I will be teaching a free workshop called, Writing Your Life at the West Hollywood Book Festival on October 4th, 2-3:30 and I'd like to invite any locals to attend! The description is below:

Are you interested in writing memoir, but have no idea where to begin? In this mini-workshop we will discuss the basics of memoir, memoir structure and the relationship between truth and memory. Writing exercises will be given to jump start the process. Whether you want to write for healing or for publication, this workshop will guarantee to inspire. Make sure to bring a notebook or journal. Be ready to have fun and to explore!
I guest blog once a month over on the Story Circle Network Telling HerStories blog. Today was my day, and I thought I'd share the link with the women here. This month's post is called, "Selling Books...Are You Up to the Challenge?"

And last week I interviewed a woman who was a Rosie the Riveter some 65 years ago. Actually, she was an "Ethel the Riveter." She was as cute as can be. You can read that post and listen to our conversation: A Rosie the Riveter Talks About the Importance of Rosie's Bandana.
For those who are interested in literary journals, I have an interview on my blog with Grace Bauer, guest editor for the special issue of Prairie Schooner, featuring fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction relating to the baby boom generation. Grace answers questions about how she found writers, sorted submissions, and chose the editorial mix, as well as some tips on writing about a treasured past without being sentimental on the page. Here's the link. Also, you can leave a comment and one commenter will be randomly chosen for a free subscription to Prairie Schooner.

If you love writing prompts, then follow this link to Women's Memoirs. Today we posted a guest blog by memoirist Leslie Gilbert-Lurie. Her new book, Bending Toward the Sun, is about lessons passed and feelings learned from her mother Holocaust survivor Rita Lurie. Leslie believes some of these feelings (as well as determination to survive) have even been passed along to her daughter.
It's an inspiring book, and her guest blog helps you stay focused and true to your passion when others comment, critique and discourage.

Leslie ends her blog with a nice blog about memoir writing. It's good stuff.

And then, I hope you'll join us on Saturday, October 3rd when we interview Leslie. Also post a question for Leslie...it's your chance to ask a published author anything you want. Details on Women's Memoirs.

Jayrod Garrett replied to the discussion 'What did you blog about Today?' in the group Blogging about Books and Writing!
I shared a post titled "The Birth of the Diversity Blogs" today.  I wanted to share about the various cultures and peoples of the world and I figured that I should make that the theme of my blog.  :D Enjoy!
