Setting the Mood
I'm in the process of rewriting. I have to focus on mood. I'm going to watch one of my favorite movies. Halloween. Even before Michael Myers gets to Hadonfield, you know something bad is going to happen, just by the quiet, tree-lined neighborhood. The big, single family homes, the sweet, adorable kids all about. I love the way that pictures pulls you in. It's slow, but it sets the mood perfectly, letting you know that something ugly is about to happen to that beautiful place. Does anyone else have a movie that helps you focus on mood in your stories?

One of my favorite directors for mood is David Lynch. Besides being a director/writer, he's a fine artist. There was so much mood in Blue Velvet, I couldn't finish watching it. Too creepy. Still, one of the most memorable movies I mostly saw. From his work I learned about the telling detail and how it sets a mood.

Blue Velvet! Wow. I haven't heard anybody mention that film in a long time. You are right. There is a lot of mood in it and it is creepy. My friends and I watched that movie so many times that we knew it word for word.
