Lisa - I think you have an interesting perspective on cult life.....you're are trying to bring a lighter perspective to a highly controversial topic....

Here are a couple titles that would make me want to read the book (and I don't usually read 'heavy' cult content):
Cult-U: The Kool-Aid Hangover
Cult-U: Diary of a Sorority Dropout
Cult-U: The Walk of Shame
Survivor's Guide to Brain Control
Escaping Cult Utopia: A Survivor’s Guide
Cult Kool-Aid. Mind or Brain Control?
Cult Life: Breaking the Habit
Cult Zombies: Finding the Cure

I hope these help and I look forward to reading your book :)

Marita

I love them! Very catchy! I'm still trying to figure out some major plot points etc. Maybe that will help.
Wow, these are great....Lisa, what a list Marita has sent for you. Great!
The Light of the Son is a memoir about losing two of my sons and then my "loving" family to the insidious charms of denial.
Love this Title...does it relate to Light of Jesus...finding Faith to deal with this denial or is it in relation to the loss of your sons only ??  If it is about your sons only...then I would perhaps look at adding something about loss too...The Light of or from the Lost Son.
It comes from my mother-in-law's saying, "Nothing is spun so fine that it doesn't come to the light of the sun."

I'm new to this discussion.

The working title, as Debra implies, speaks to me of THE "Son," which might put off some book browsers (myself included.) However, your mother-in-law's saying is so lovely that I think it is worth using in some way, especially since it is likely mentioned in the work itself. So... how about something along the lines of "Coming to the Light" (if the work is about redemption);"Spun Too Fine" (if the work is about the author's belief that THIS issue is/was, indeed spun too fine to come to the light of the sun); or some version of "Light from My Sons/Coming to the Light from My Sons" (again, if the work deals with redemption -- related to your boys.)

Does this quote refer to lies?  (I have heard of one similar...Hidden truths will never see the Light of Day....Ideas will never see the light of Day)    If it is... I Love it.  I connected to your title straight away...and now with this link to the quote/saying....makes it all the more intriguing.  I want to read your memoir.  The cover would be great with the boys as young boys happy, smiling etc.   I feel for you.  Light of the Son: Darkness of Denial

Your title makes me think of Jesus first.

Wondering about something like this:  The Light from My Lost Son as Debra Farmer suggested.

Or:  Losing My Son: The Lost Light

It is not a religious book tho certainly a crisis of faith is suffered and examined.  But the book is written in 3 parts:  The Book of Noah, The Book of Jonah, and The Book of Isaiah as those are the names of 3 of my sons.  So perhaps I should start querying christian agents as I am on my 70th rejection and counting.  Thanks for your thoughts!

I think it sounds religious, too (from the title). Unless you change it to the Light of the Sun.

I'm not an expert by any means, but some friends have told me when I start sending out queries if I get several rejections, I need to do some serious rewriting. I hope that helps.

Lisa

Hi Kelly, I just read this post.  Rejection can be a good thing....motivates us to keep going.  This is an important story to be shared...It is yours.  Even though we are familiar with Light of the Sun....I think it is important to keep 'Son'....for that is what has motivated to write your memoir.

A few more....The Life of my Sons: A Crisis of Faith, The Light of my Sons: A Crisis of Faith
