SheWriMo: She Writes November Writing Challenge, NOVEMBER 1ST

Hi all!  My goal for today is to reread and edit the first two chapters of the novel I am working on, and then to write 500 words. (I have my writing group tonight so I will be reading and giving feedback on other writers work, which will cut my afternoon a little bit short.)  What's yours?

I have got to get on the case with the slowcooker, that would help free me up for sure!  Do you have a recipe book that you like?  Not to go off on a non-writing-related tangent, here...
I love my slow cooker, but am tired of my old recipes.  I'd love some inspiration in this area too.

The 150 best Slow Cooker Recipes

Most, and I own many, are total crap, but this one is fantastic. I have the first edition, but I can't imagine the second not being as good if not better. The recipes are amazing and can be easily converted for stove top or oven prep. Two tips though -

1) unless you are a real onion lover, I suggest using half the amount of onion in the recipes.

2) for any recipes using rice or pasta - cook it seperately and add just before serving.

I don't have one particular cookbook that I love for slow cooking and I find myself on the web searching for the perfect dish. I have a farm share with a meat farm so I am always looking for new ways to cook up the interesting cuts they give me each month and stretch them out a bit...

I visit chowstalker.com as it is the most focused on my health/dietary needs, and there are so many great ideas there.

I do a few very easy slow cooker recipes. We get meat from a local farmer and it's all in a big freezer, so I do all of these w/ frozen cuts of meat or an entire frozen chicken.

1. Easy Chicken Pot Pie. This is the most time intensive one I do. Family fave. Requires Bisquick biscuits. Takes 10 min in the morning and another 20 or so when you get home. Plus maybe 15 min to make the biscuits. Put 1 chopped onion in bottom of slow cooker. Place whole chicken on top of onion. Add salt and pepper, 1 can of cream of mushroom (or chicken) soup and about 1 cup of chicken broth/stock. Cook on low for 10 hours (or until you get home from work). Once home, take chicken out and remove meat from bone, and chop. Toss chopped chicken back in slow cooker with another can of cr. of shroom (or chicken) soup, 1/2 bag of frozen peas, 1/2 bag of frozen corn and more stock. Toss in chopped carrots. Cook on high for an hour (or far less if you zap the veg in the micro first). Put 1 or 2 Bisquick biscuits in the bottom of a bowl and ladle the chicken mixture on top. I make the biscuits the night before, but you could make them while the veggies cook.

2. Simplest Roast Ever. Takes about 3 minutes. Put a chopped onion on the bottom of the slow cooker. Put one or two roasts on top. Pour a can of crushed tomatoes on top of roast. Add a chopped head of garlic (or garlic powder), a little salt and pepper, and a dash or more of red wine. Cook on low for 10 hours (or until you get home from work). If you have an hour or so before you eat, toss some potatoes in for the last hour.

3. Easy BBQ Chicken. Put (you guessed it) a chopped onion in the bottom of the slow cooker. Toss in whatever chicken parts you have - legs, wings, breasts, whatever. I suppose you could throw in an entire bird. Pour your fave bbq sauce over chicken, and a little salt and pepper. Cook on low for 10 hours.

I've tried slow cooker lasagna but had a bad recipe. Am on the hunt for another, as I think that'd be a big hit. Have also done lamb meatballs, while rice is cooking in the rice cooker. Another family fave. I find ones that work with frozen meat are best because if the meat is thawed, it'll likely be overcooked by the time we get home at the end of the day.

Rachel, I now have a love affair with my slow cooker. That thing saves my life a few times/week.
I love slow cookers.  I bought one when I bought my home & recently bought a slow cooker recipe book so I had more things to try in it than the same ol' round of recipes.

Kamy:

Thank you for helping all of us procrastinators to get moving. I am committed, with your help and all my fellow women writers to submit one poem each day to a literary journal.

Thank you again,

Consuelo

Oh, I have this problem, too. It's very dificult to be good wife, good mother and good writer.

My goal is to write something each day, no matter how long or short it may be. The challenge is to consistantly write despite the many distractions. My goal: Just shut up and write!
My goal is to get envision chapter with protagonist brother and future husband and get it down on the page.
I'm trying to write the first ten pages of a novel. My goal is to do 50,000 words this month.  I've never set myself this kind of deadline and  I'm curious about the quality of the material this will produce.  But, hey, it's an experiment!
