SheWriMo: She Writes November Writing Challenge, NOVEMBER 1ST

Hi all!  My goal for today is to reread and edit the first two chapters of the novel I am working on, and then to write 500 words. (I have my writing group tonight so I will be reading and giving feedback on other writers work, which will cut my afternoon a little bit short.)  What's yours?

It seems like when you talk about what you want to do...time is not the problem...than when you actually start it... the phone rings... people stop by... the wish washer starts making funny noises... ; )
And I got 1816 words in which isn't as mind-blowing as some of you (big respect to you), but for me, it's great. Steady on.
My goal is to write everyday this month... I feel refreshed and inspired to write this month... I believe my creative juices are flowing like never before... I am on a cruise ship with writer's around the world and excited about the adventure we are under taking. I believe there will be novels that shake and change the world for the new coming year and they will be birthed this month... How exciting! If your not on the ship...hurry it's not too late...join us!
I know what you mean. I took 2 months off writing after a summer of ghostwriting which wore me out. Now in November I feel I can start fiction again :-)
Yesterday's goal was to write 4,000 words - I made it to 4,435.  Today's goal is to get to 6,000 words.  I'm at 5,950 right now.  ;)
Okay, it's only the third of the month and I'm feeling a bit discouraged, wondering whether I should have let this challenge pass me by.  It's really a matter of time - not only how much there is, but what your energy level is like - and what gets sacrificed for what (e.g. no run today because I was marking papers), but sometimes I feel like I really can't squeeze any more into my day.  Today, I will be content with my journal entry, despite its brevity.

Hey Claudia ... with life and all it's challenges, being content with your journal entry today is sufficient. Maybe not for tomorrow, but that's for tomorrows challenge. This is a one-day-at-a-time writing exercise after all, not a week-at-a-time or a month-at-a-time one.

Here's a thought. Think of what you can reasonably do tomorrow, even if it's something like going for a run so you don't feel too sad about missing it today.

Sometimes our writing goals aren't about doing any actual writing, and it's certainly not a numbers game.

Hope this helps,

Widder

Hi, Claudia!

I understand how you feel.  Sometimes, setting goals, especially writing goals, can feel overwhelming; but hang in there.  Do it when you feel like doing it.  If you feel like taking a break one day and going for a run, or completing some errands, I say go for it.  Whatever it takes for you to help keep the activity a fun one, do that.  Journal entries are a great outlet.  You never know what can come of those.  Keep going.  You might surprise yourself as how far this challenge takes you.  Good luck to you!

3rd Nov - Almost met yesterday's goals ... updated my book page (Mortal Instinct) on my blog ... and wrote 470 words, which is far short of my target of 1,000 words a day on book 2 ... le sigh.

Today's goals - 1,000 words on Book 2 and 1 promotional thing-y for Book 1

Sometimes we start writing with an outline. Sometimes we blindly prewrite until the outline forms itself. The current essay is one of those latter experiences. Had to shift the hook that organically arose last night. Now it's more aligned with today's prewriting.
I did not post my goal this morning. I didn't think I'd have the chance to write at all. However, I've managed to continue with my editing and I am now seventy pages from the end. My goal for tomorrow, if not tonight, is to have the MS finished for good so that my number one fan, my daughter, can have her say on the rewrite before I send it off to my editor.
It's done. My hands are bloodied and sore but I have finally finished the final (7th) editing of my manuscript. I'm too embarrassed to confess how many words I had to cut. Next time I'll follow a guideline. Today I also posted in the Farm, Ranch and Rural discussion group. Any farmers out there? Have a wonderful afternoon.
