Believe it or not, the following advice has been VERY helpful to me- it made my writing tighter. And it can apply to this challenge (lol):

 

"Pay attention to requested word count."

Sit down, shut up and write!

Words to live by!! Yes!!

These are all really good however, I think Maya Davis' rings most true for me. 

Write what you want to read. 

Writers write. So sit down -- write.

Read. Read. Read. Read. Read. Read.

Truly, author of LIE.

First draft -- let 'er rip.

Write daily. Write badly. Revise thoroughly.
