I pre-ordered Anne Carson's NOX. I love her challenging and inspiring poetry and translations, and I can't wait to see the experiment of the book's folded format.
I bought "Housekeeping for the Soul: a Practical Guide to Restoring Your Inner Sanctuary" by Sandra Carrington-Smith. Carrington-Smith is a mother and wife like many of us and she uses the landscape of her home to set up a unique allegory for the house of the soul in this inspirational book.
Charlaine Harris does fantasy wonderfully well. Ive pretty much read all of her collection over the past 6 mths. Her True Blood novels are NOT crude and vulgar like the TV show, (I like it too in some ways - but its nothing like the books) and her characters eclectic and absorbing, as are her plots. All wonderfull to read, each book expands on characters backstories bit by bit, so that you feel utterely involved in all the plot,s and the lives of supes and humans alike. From the obvious: Vampires, the beautiful and sometimes evil faries, dangerous yet loveable were creatures, and scary but loyal goblins, theyre all so beleiveable. Great reads if youre into fantasy. Her 'Grave' novels are captivating too - the heroine finds corpses. I'm only the third book right now. I highly reccommend this author for all who like to escape, to wonder and to laugh. Shah. X

And that's the past 2 months. Just the women. Note to self...start reading faster.
I received the books by Shewrites member, Mother Writer, and avid blogger Sandra Carrington-Smith, "Housekeeping for the Soul: A Practical Guide to Restoring Your Inner Sanctuary" and "The Book of Obeah" both great reads!
I just bought "Imperfect Endings" by Zoe Carter, "Show Me The Way" by Jennifer Lauck, and TWO MORE copies of "Marrying George Clooney" by Amy Ferris (so I could give them to friends).
I previously bought books by Hope Edelman and Jennifer Lauck, before I knew about She Writes.
I am so inspired by all of you and LOVE reading your books.
I bought Laura Munson's This is Not the Story You Think it is: A Season of Unlikely Happiness. Laura found my blog Lessons from the Monk I Married, through a friend of a friend and encouraged me to contact her agent. My book Lessons from the Monk I Married, is about my 13-year journey with my husband, a former Korean Buddhist Monk.
Happy to say that Laura and I now share the same agent!!!
Tenderfoot by Mary E. Trimble. I wrote this to the author: "Mary, I loved Tenderfoot! Read all day and finished at midnight Monday. I didn't want to stop. My goodness, you did a lot of research on Mt. St. Helen and I liked how you presented the events as a news report at the beginning of each chapter. When I reached the chapter without the news blurb, a chill went down my spine! The romance was written so tastefully--I've never been much of a romance reader, even as a younger woman. My daughter, who's 35, loves all the hot and spicy ingredients, but I was satisfied that "J's urgency" was as smoky as it got, lol. A finely written strong-woman story."
This is a great thread...it would be lovely to see some reviews of the works...like what Tree Riesener did. Is there a review page anywhere on Shewrites?
