You may or may not have heard of the Author Effect attempt on Facebook. A writer has chosen 2 books to promote under the idea that, if enough people sign on and tell their friends, the book will be a bestseller.

Now, I read one of the two books (they're both by the same author), and I unsubscribed from the project, because I couldn't recommend it. I also don't see the project as having much of a chance of success; the distribution model of the publishing company seems to be a formidable obstacle. So I'm not putting the link up in hopes everyone will join it. Rather, I was looking for opinions on the matter. Have you read the author in question? What chance do you think the project has of success? What do you think of these kind of promotions, or this one in particular?

Really, I'm just hoping to solicit opinions and get some discussions going, and I thought the link was a good jumping-off point. So, sound off!
