What happens when you revise?
I'd like to see a discussion among poets here about revision. I find I get into an almost altered state when I revise. I don't know what time it is, whether I'm hungry or thirsty, or much of anything else. I am starting to think I am just odd.
I'd like to hear from poets about their revision process too. Have a special place you go to do this part of the writing? a ritual (tea, chocolate, a bath first?)

Hi Carol,
Your comment regarding losing time when you revise, reminds me of something an instructor once said to me. He was describing one's behavior when they feel intense passion, i.e,. in love for their work, activity etc...He described how the person will be completely consumed by the work, hours pass, yet they feel more like minutes, they put the work above everything else for a period of time, even their own hunger signals...I find it fascinating and I have experienced this myself while working in a darkroom delveloping photos....I wanted to share this with you and no, I don't think it's odd, you're just in love, impassioned!

I think it's a flow state, intense concentration so time stops. I sometimes revise in bed. I think about it all day.
