I'm going to have a couple of days in London in January and I'd like to turn this into something of a writing retreat. Any suggestions about where to stay? Where to write? Where to find poetry readings and similar literary events? I am somewhat familiar with London having lived in Notting Hill for 2 years, but that was in a previous life when I wasn't plugged into any literary scene. Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated!
I used to work in London but I never got involved with the writing scene as I was constantly commuting. Library's usually have leaflet on that kind of thing. I've had a look on google and there is a list of some writers groups here. A list of poetry events here and a list of literary events here - you can also sign up for a weekly email about all events in London at the last link. Also there is London Literary Online here. You might also want to try the www.nanowrimo.org forums in the regional London forum. There might be still some folks around who can direct you to events
Anika, thanks for the suggestions. The days absolutely flew by. The best chance I had to write was an afternoon in the hotel room. I ended up spending a productive afternoon at the Poetry Library in the Southbank Centre. Also, I found an excellent list of used bookstores on the Time Out website.
