Dynamic Multi-Media Author Event Planning

Increasingly, readers are as interested in hearing about and from the author as they are in the subject and substance of her book. Live events that move beyond traditional bookstore readings have become a vital part of an author’s publicity tour.

Traditional marketing of books (foot traffic in stores, reviews, word of mouth, indie support) is no longer effective: an author needs a multimedia platform to reach readers and book buyers. Most authors do not have either information about or access to multimedia platforms, and because of that, their books do not reach the target audience. There are two clear solutions to this challenge: internet marketing and author events/experiences.

I intimately understand the needs of authors to build community and on-line audience because of my own experience as an author and journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Newsweek, The London Times, Vogue, and Wired. I grew up in a publishing family and have worked in book publishing and the media for over fifteen years. I've edited books under contract with HarperCollins and Random House, and I'm the author of the book In Her Own Sweet Time: Unexpected Adventures in Finding Love, Commitment and Motherhood. (Basic Books, 2009). As a producer of multimedia events, I've worked with Time Inc.’s Business 2.0 magazine, Media Bistro, The Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California, The Society for Ethical Culture, Plum magazine, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, and Your Tango and bestselling author Rachel Greenwald.
