I started blogging as a way to self-promote—after being urged to for year—and was surprised to find that it's kind of thrilling. I don't have a big audience but they read the stuff within hours or days, and there's no editor (except my brother who sends me copyedits a few days after publication: greatly appreciated). It still feels as if blogging must be a pyramid scheme--if everyone writes, who will read?--but as long as it lasts,I'll enjoy it.

Greetings fellow bloggers!

I recently discovered SheWrites and joined the "editors" group. I also have a blog (and am working on getting a couple more up and running), so I thought I'd join this group, too.

I am a freelance copyeditor, proofreader, writer, and general wordsmith. My passion lies not so much in writing, but in perfecting the writing of others.

I created my blog about a year ago, and although I sometimes ramble there, the main focus of my blog is grammar, usage, and language.

If you have questions about grammar or usage, feel free to contact me. My blog, "Cassie's Perfect ... Word" is at http://cassiesperfectwordblog.typepad.com/cassies_perfect_blog/ .

Looking forward to learning from and sharing with you!

Hello, SW Memoir Writers! I'm Mary B. Kurtz. I live in northwestern Colorado on a ranch outside Steamboat Springs. My blog, Mary B. Kurtz: At Home in the Elk River Valley, offers readers a view of the seasonal activities on our ranch, including updates on the breeding and training of our many quarter horses; my dog, Emma, and the other wonderful ranch dogs; my work in our many gardens; the solitude of our deep winters; and the work of my young adult children in the horse industry. I've also illustrated my blog with a variety of slideshows and still photography that help tell the story of the place my husband and I call home.

I hope you'll visit me at: www.marybkurtz.blogspot.com.

You may also visit my website at: www.marybkurtz.com where you can read excerpts from my manuscript, At Home in the Elk River Valley: Reflections on Family, Place, and the West and view my photo gallery.

Thank you!

Thanks Elaine, I appreciate any suggestions. Won't get too discouraged - too headstrong - it'll all come together in time. Recycling is a huge topic - I'm sure I will and it will fall into the right networks! And it's such a GREAT story, of course!!

Suzan---Don't get discouraged! Blogging takes times to build readership. The best way to do that is in joining networks like this one, reading and responding to other women's blogs (and always include a link to yours!) Put your blog address in your emails; on business cards. Once your book begins circulating, you're likely to build followers from there. You also have to take a look at who your target audience is for your blog--it sounds like yours would be of strong interest to moms, so you might want to target websites and networks on parenting.

I just joined shewrites and I am really looking forward to picking up ideas! I have a blog that I started several months ago to try to jumpstart promoting my first self-published book on recycling for children. So far, my blog hasn't reached the millions I wanted it to but rather a few (and I mean a few). Lots to learn! I don't twitter yet - I have a facebook for Johnny Green, my main character and am trying to gain a more on-line presence through other sights such as shewrites, goodreads, and other social media I happen to stumble on. This is great - looking forward to gaining insight from those that have been before! Thanks.

I just wrote a post about in response to an email that I received about blogging as an act of feminist activism. I would be interested in your thoughts.

Thank you, Jane Gassner (MidLifeBloggers), for suggesting this site to me. So great to join a group of women bloggers! I've been blogging for about 10 months, and have had a number of stories cross-posted on Jane's website (she's very selective so I feel honored). Most exciting was being selected as a Guest Writer for MORE.com--my bible of midlife! I tend to be glib, but after menopause, what else is there? I write observations, musings, bizarre ideas that pop into my head, all inspired by estrogen depletion. Sometimes I do get reflective as in a piece I wrote for MORE following Farrah Fawcett's death called "Teaching Our Daughters to Be Brave." My mantra is "Life blooms after 40!" For me, a lifelong desire to write has been the dream that reawakened in midlife. I started by attending a tremendous writer's conference (Craigville Beach, Cape Cod), had my first non-fiction humor piece (Sexless in the City) published in the metro lifestyle magazine in 2007, and started blogging last fall. I pay the bills as a non-profit arts marketing director while I try to develop my voice and tighten up my writing style. Look forward to exchanging ideas with all of you!

Hi, everyone - I'm here to sit quietly in the corner and learn! I don't have a blog yet, though I am thinking of jumping into the pool. I run a small publishing business (sniplits.com - audio short stories as MP3 files) and worry about: 1) the time commitment (some days there's no time even for Twitter!); 2) whether I have anything interesting to say; and, 3) whether I should start a blog affiliated with Sniplits, or one specifically NOT affiliated with Sniplits to get the hang of it. Anyway, I look forward to reading your blogs and learning.

Hello!

I'm new here as of last night/today. Just trying to get to grips with it all as it seems like a great resource.

Anyway, I'm a 21 year old feminist blogger from London. I have just graduated and I'm now looking for a meaningless job whilst I set up my feminist bookshop which should hopefully be open next summer.

My blog is: http://myswimsuitissues.blogspot.com/

I hope you like it, it's very new.
