If all goes well, I will shortly be blogging about self-publishing vs. traditional publishing for a big big big media site. I need your questions.
1. Qualms, comments, or concerns about choosing self- over traditional, or vice-versa.
2. Successes?
3. Regrets?
4. Other thoughts?
You can reach me here on SheWrites, or at my blog; allehall.worpress.com.
Thanks!

What a great topic.
To date, I have published four books. My publishers are, in order, Houghton Mifflin, Simon & Schuster, Bloomsbury, my sister and Grand Central. See the "my sister" one in there?
Despite beginning my career at The New York Times, being a commentator on All Things Considered, and having a large platform as a blogger and a radio talent on 7-days-per-week on Sirius Satellite Radio, and being well-published for my first three non-fiction books, when it came to my fourth, I chose to self-publish first. Only after selling all the copies did I take it to my agent, who then took it to auction.
I think I have something to share. I'd be delighted to share with you.
I'll be guest editing She Writes this week.
I hope we get to know one another.
Best,
Marion

I'm a long-time television writer and lyricist, about to publish my first book, The Neurotic Parent's Guide to College Admissions, http://www.prospectparkmedia.com/our-books-2/the-neurotic-parents-g..., a satiric guidebook based on my blog http://theneuroticparent.com. An excerpt of the blog was published two years ago in http://www.amazon.com/Going-College-Not-You-Surviving-ebook/dp/B003... (St. Martin's Press) I'd be happy to tell you all the advantages (and there are many) of dealing with a small publisher.
Best regards,

Hi Alle,
I’ve just finished writing my first book, a memoir. I am vacillating back and forth as to whether to self-publish or publish traditionally. I am considering both. I’ve completed my query letter and a proposal and am now scoping out agents. My inclination is to try traditional first and if that doesn’t work, consider self-publishing. I’ve been a non-fiction journal and essay writer for years, co-author of a a traditionally published cookbook, and have four active blogs. While I’m preparing to start the submission process, I’m using social media to help build my platform. I am pretty knowledgeable about both approaches, but I know an interview would help me crystallize my thinking about the best way to go at this point in time.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Nancy
