Empowered YA Heroines

I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel that YA fiction has become overrun with stories about passive girls whose whole existence and reason for being relies on being attached to an impossibly handsome, other-wordly beautiful boy.  Young girls, all women really, but specifically young girls have so many negative influences to combat, I feel the least we can do is give them some better role models in the books they read.  I'm not bashing love stories, but girls need to know that there's much more to life!  Like how about their own dreams and aspirations?  Celebrating what makes them creative and unique?  I think it's time for some new stories to be told with some new, more empowered, totally kick-ass heroines!

Wow.

I'm so sorry, I've been M.I.A. for waaayyy too long.  I started this group back in what, 2010?  2011?  And I didn't think anyone would be interested in joining so I stopped checking.  Actually I haven't been on the site in forever.  By chance, I happened to log in yesterday and I see now only have people joined, but are participating!  And I just want to say thank you!

Thank you for joining and sharing your thoughts and your writing.

Hello Ladies. Anyone here have a moment (or a few, actually) to spare? I am looking some feedback on the 10th chapter of my YA Silent Voices. It is written from a omniscient third-person narrative, focusing on one or two of the for MCs feelings (or silenced voices) in each chapter.

It would be very kind of you to give me any positive, negative or constructive feedback you may be willing to share. Thank you very much in advance! :)

Silent Voices: Four extraordinary people, young of blood, kind at heart, strong of will, but rash at actions...living in their own worlds, following isolated paths to their own goals...when the paths cross, the worlds shall crash...into a complex bonds of relationships...Because in a world where wants precede needs, only two can survive happily...

I second that thank you =). It's why I like to write my protags tough, and why my main lead in my current WIP is about girl power.

Cannot thank you enough for starting this group. I just finished a YA about a girl giving up a guy for her girlfriends and her family.
