What is EPublishing?

EPublishing (also e-publishing) is Electronic publishing, or the digital publication of electronic magazines, articles and e-books. The formats for epublishing are quite extensive- if you're interested in learning more, Wikipedia has an excellent breakdown of them here:

I independently published (through my small pub co. Blooming Women Press) my first book Mom Minus Dad: The Essential Resource Guide for Busy Adults with a Newly Widowed Parent in 2008 in print through Lightning Source (POD) and in 2009 as ebook on Kindle without Lightning Source. I have had a great experience selling my book in Amazon's Kindle format and it's helped my print sales a lot too. Most my sales however are now in ebook format...Happy to answer any questions about my experience- it's been very empowering.

Some of you may or may not have had issues with regard to Amazon's return policy and how they treat ebooks, but let me tell you, it is completely detrimental and unfair when you consider how Amazon treats other "media items." To quote Amazon's return policy: "Media items (for example, movies, music, video games, and software) must be unopened and still in their plastic wrap."

Why aren't ebooks treated the same??? Ebooks are a form of electronic media! The following message came to me today and I'm sharing it here. As a publisher and author of ebooks, I know and have seen how Amazon returns can wipeout significant earnings.

*** Permission to forward ***
There's a petition on Change.org to get Amazon to change their policy regarding ebook returns/refunds. Right now too many people are buying ebooks, reading them within the 7 days allotted for returns, then returning them for a full refund.
There are people who cheerfully brag about doing this and see nothing wrong with
it. I and many others see it as another form of piracy. Whether you're traditionally
published or indie published, this policy negatively affects authors' incomes. If
you're interested in signing, here's the link:

And here's a tweet to help spread the word:

Hi, there, maybe this is one of the groups I have been looking for.  While preparing a novel for a visit to a small publisher (where it will hopefully find a home) I have taken to epublishing some of my short stories at smashwords.  Would love to converse with others who have experience with smashwords: How's it working for you? What's your impression/experience?

Andrew E. Kaufman invited me to talk about book covers from a designer's perspective. Would love it if you'd take a moment to stop by ♥ (P.S. CFC is an awesome resource for writers and readers from any genre. They talk about all kinds of things over there!)

Unfortunately I don't have time now to help, but I did write a simple guide book about how to do it, if you think that might be helpful. http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Formatting-Technophobic-Author-ebook/d...

Is there anyone out there who can assist in formatting ebooks? Willing to pay, do cover art for a book or whatever we can negotiate. Thank you, ladies.
