What are some places that publish narrative non-fiction essays? Obviously, travel essays have a niche - in some magazines and anthologies - but what about other topics? Where have you published your work?

Where can i publish/submit essays on mental wellness/mental illness? Anyone, please? Thanks!
Amy,
I just finished a piece on my reaction to my friend's suicide. If you've found out any place that may be interested, please post. Although, I'm probably going to try to get it in a more general site or pub. Lisa
http://ptsdcreativewriting.blogspot.comThis is my blog of a recent essay attempt at something very real for me. Wondering where do i fit in the market? Please any suggestions would be much appreciated!
HI, I just joined this group. I have had my humor work published in newspapers and magazines, but lately, humor is hard to fit into print media. I post at http://Booksie.myveryownfan.com and Associated Content as well as She Writes. It gets reads and gives people a chuckle. Hopefully, it will translate into some book sales too! Donna
Are ALL of us recovering lawyers??

I just got an essay into the Christian Science Monitor's "Home Forum" section -- it appeared in the April 26th print issue but is also available online. (Google "Rosalind Warren" and "Snore Wars"). They were a pleasure to work with and paid me $150!
So far I've published only online: Burst, Long Story Short, and Mamaphonic.
Most literary magazines have a nonfiction section. Even hard-core fiction/poetry places such as Prairie Schooner have opened to creative nonfiction/narrative essay. Creative Nonfiction and 4th Genre are the two biggest names in the field, along with Brevity (750 words or less).

Sigh; plenty of tabloid-format weeklies and daily regional papers used to have a place for essays. Those were the days ...
Hey, again. I dug up a list I posted elsewhere on SheWrites, so forgive the duplication. It is by no means exclusive, nor organized in any particular fashion.

Fourth Genre
Mid-American Review
Prairie Schooner (newly interested in CNF = better chance at getting in)
Open City (ditto; I think. Make sure to check first.)
River Teeth
Fuge
Black Warrior Review
Brevity (750 words or less)
This Great Society (brand new, and I had a new clip on-line within three months of submitting)
Sonora Review
Crab Creek Review
Other Voices
A great place to always look for markets is in Poets & Writers Magazine (www.pw.org), under the classifieds section.

I keep a list of markets and send it out to my students who continually send me new places, and I keep that going. I'll try at some point to post that here. Some are out of date, and some are missing, and some are doubled-up (because I haven't spent the time to cull the list and put it in good order), but it might be useful for some of you, and I think this stuff is karmic.
Hi DeLani,

Creative Nonfiction is a great resource for narrative nf essays. They publish them almost exclusively. I work on Willow Springs as the Nonfiction Editor, and we publish narrative essays. Check it out if you want at
I am in the process of submitting essays to a few different relevant literary magazines for my topic areas anyway...including Black Warrior Review, Creative Non Fiction, Prairie Schooner (they have a page on here as well), Hunger Mountain, Brevity (750 words or fewer), Fourth Genre, and Calyx (which publishes women exclusively on a wide variety of topics, fiction, non-fiction and poetry).

There is a new and fascinating looking literary magazine publishing only on artisan culture for which I'm writing a piece called Trachodon...check it out...www.trachodon.org.

Lots of other options if you look at Poets and Writers Magazine (or online)...

But I'm early stage, other than a few rejections...and one essay pending consideration (I'm in the last 25/500 in one magazine for one of their contests), I'm still a hopeful!

So many great places to publish though....lots of literary reviews, Silk Road Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Georgia Review, Bellingham Review just to name a very few...
