In a time when many authors have to shill their own work (physically and financially) because publishers can't afford to or don't want to unless you're a Kardashian and they know people will line up for the book signing (yes, Kim & Co "wrote" a novel) we can get so caught up in promoting our stuff that we forget others have written books too.

In an effort to help a friend/mentor as well as recommend a book that I have read and really did benefit from I offer you an article I wrote about "Unhooked: How to Quit Anything."

I started a critique group post above in the discussions, and had too many responses for spots in the group.  Check there, because I know there were others looking for critiqing friends:)  Good luck!

Hello,

I have an anthology of poetry, prose, essays and short stories.  I am looking for a critique partner who is an expert in essay writing.  I got A's on all of the essays in the anthology but I would like someone to read them and make sure they are truly worthy of the "A" they earned. 

I can do critique for critique, so please let me know if you are interested.

Just wanted to commend Isabel Wilkerson's"First Time for Everything" in yesterday's NYT mag. So moving I tried to tell my family about it and just couldn't get the words out.

Julija, thanks for the info on that writing residency. It looks great. I'm not sure I can swing it this year, but I'm looking into residencies.

I am new to SheWrites and must thank this group for all of its valuable resources. I feel like my world just opened up to new and exciting possibilities. My creative nonfiction professor in college told me that "essay" means to dry, to dare. My blog is dedicated to daring to tell our stories.
