Comment by Lorraine Duffy Merkl on January 5, 2012 at 12:03pm In a time when many authors have to shill their own work (physically and financially) because publishers can't afford to or don't want to unless you're a Kardashian and they know people will line up for the book signing (yes, Kim & Co "wrote" a novel) we can get so caught up in promoting our stuff that we forget others have written books too.
In an effort to help a friend/mentor as well as recommend a book that I have read and really did benefit from I offer you an article I wrote about "Unhooked: How to Quit Anything."

Just don't quit writing.

I started a critique group post above in the discussions, and had too many responses for spots in the group. Check there, because I know there were others looking for critiqing friends:) Good luck!
Comment by Heather Bell on January 1, 2012 at 11:21pm I am new to this site and trying to branch out a little. I love narrative writing. Excited to see what is on here!
Comment by Miguelina on January 1, 2012 at 10:47pm Hello,
I have an anthology of poetry, prose, essays and short stories. I am looking for a critique partner who is an expert in essay writing. I got A's on all of the essays in the anthology but I would like someone to read them and make sure they are truly worthy of the "A" they earned.
I can do critique for critique, so please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks, Lina
Comment by Meg Waite Clayton on December 26, 2011 at 6:17pm Just wanted to commend Isabel Wilkerson's"First Time for Everything" in yesterday's NYT mag. So moving I tried to tell my family about it and just couldn't get the words out.
Comment by Anna Leahy on December 25, 2011 at 3:42pm Julija, thanks for the info on that writing residency. It looks great. I'm not sure I can swing it this year, but I'm looking into residencies.
Michelle, congrats on the inaugural publication! That's always good to hear about.
Comment by Melissa Kiefer on December 25, 2011 at 9:34am I am new to SheWrites and must thank this group for all of its valuable resources. I feel like my world just opened up to new and exciting possibilities. My creative nonfiction professor in college told me that "essay" means to dry, to dare. My blog is dedicated to daring to tell our stories. Please stop by http://www.on-bruised-knees.blogspot.com and share with me. I love advice, feedback, commenting, and connecting with other strong women writers. It is so frustrating to have a dream but not know what to do with all of that passion and how to connect with others to make the material become more. I'm learning and growing with this site, and I thank you again for the tools, tips, and information. Blessed be.
