There's another resource called "Guide to LIterary Agents" that I found helpful as well.

Lucille: I've been told by many people who would know that It's a good idea to find a book or books that are similar to yours, then track down and target the agent(s) who handled said books. Best, Beth

Hi Lucille: If you buy the Writers' Market book, or subscribe to Media Bistro's Avant Guild or to Publishers' Marketplace, you can get a lot of good info about which agents are looking for new clients and what they're looking for. Good luck!

I don't know you and I am new to this group, a novice writer (memoir in progress, some essays published) and I just want to offer a hearty congratulations! What a great accomplishment! Looking forward to readinging your work. You must be so proud.

How does a novice writer begin to look for an agent?

Congratulations, Lorraine. Isn't it awesome to see your book on Amazon.com? Mine is there as well. Love your title. Part of my memoir, Following the Whispers," talks about being overweight and why. This is a wonderful group here. Thanks.

Thank you Karen for telling us about The National Association of Memoir Writers. I too had no idea it existed. I will be teaching a class in memoir writing in Jan, so I will let my students know about it as well.

Also, by odd coincidence, I just wrote about drinking in my blog yesterday (http://alchemyofloss.blogspot.com/). Caren, thanks for posting your site as well. I am browsing it now...

This is becoming a well populated board!
