Since the purpose of this group is to encourage women to submit to humor venues. I would love to see a list of those humor venues. I never seem to know where to submit to. If it hasn't been done already, can everybody chime in as to where they submit their humor pieces and we'll have the suggestions all in one place?

If this list already exists somewhere, please point me to it and I'll be sure and feel silly for not seeing it before.

Thanks!

P.S. I'll start with the first suggestion: McSweeney's Internet Tendency

I'd love to see a compiled list also!!! Sometimes it's overwhelming just to figure out where to start!

(Hi Margaret!)
Hi,
I think this is a great idea. I look thru Writers market and am surprised that a lot look for humor - like Body and Soul. I sent a query about a weekend I had with a Buddhist monk - it wasn't that sexy, but it was funny. Especially me being caught swearing the temple. But he knows of Lady Gaga so nothing surprises me. elizabeth
I imagine Writer's Market and Duotrope.com are both good places to start.

Has anyone has had experience submitting to the places listed there and finding out whether they really are humor-friendly or if they have a different idea of "humor" than we do?
Loving this idea...I'm being suffocated by the print-outs of my humor pieces...including pieces from my memoir: "How I Buried My Mom While Still Attached to Her Umbilical Cord"...as well as spiffy blog pieces...where can our "funniness" find homes?????
Haven't put those down on paper yet :-)

Simply living them as they come. God bless the fact that we can still laugh and rejoice in spite of some of what has happened to our world.

I am grateful for having the choice to read great humourous stories, so thank you ladies.

Regards, Marsha
Margaret - Agreed... Need more of these! Not sure what the submission possibilities are, but there's a publication called "The Onion" that I absolutely LOVED when I lived in Madison, WI. It's a spoof newspaper - all articles being total BS. Perhaps they take humor pieces?

Hi Margaret,

I just wanted to say that I worked for The Onion for many years--I was on the A.V. Club side, not the comedy side. They say that they don't accept unsolicited submissions on their masthead, I think, but I did hear of them occasionally taking freelanced pieces. I never submitted something to the comedy side of things, so I don't know how it works, if they actually give you a rejection or you just don't hear back. Maybe worth a try, but it has to be written in The Onion's style. Don't know if that clarifies things or just makes them murkier!
Hey thanks Margaret! I think I'll be submitting something to McSweeney's this week. I'm looking forward to other suggestions people might have.
Ladies, I just read about an "open call" on Duotrope for "The Sharp-Tongued Woman Review". Look it up. I have no idea if it is legit, and doubt it pays... But hey... a writer writes, always. *runs out of the room to beat everyone else to submittal*
I have submitted to http://www.errantparent.com/submit/, and duotrope.com has about 23 other listings under humorous styles.
Just saying thanks to all who have made suggestions...gonna do some 'funny' research!
