Non Vampire/erotic writers?

Anyone here write things not centered around the Vampire or having sex with shape-shifters? I've been looking for writers of horror who write things that are, well, scary and stuff.  I've noticed a…Continue

Female horror writers who don't write fantasy?

Are there any you would recommend? I'm looking for authors who don't write about vampires, etc. (not that there's anything wrong with that; it's just not something I could see myself writing about).…Continue

My short story Time has been accepted by Full Sail University's magazine The Navigator for publishing!

Thanks! - The Dead Time story is from a different author.  The only audio story I have out there was one done via Horror Addicts as part of their Wicked Women Writers contest - a quirky little thing called Rats!  I don't think the link is available anymore, sadly.  I'm participating in the WWW challenge this year too, however, so there will be a new audio story up this summer. I have lots of written work out there, but most of my freebies are fantasy, because I usually have a fairly easy time finding homes for my horror in anthologies.

Chantal,

Awesome story! I am a huge fun of horror, matter of fact it's my favorite genre. I love the web page and book marked it. I'm going to listen to the story you have available in dead time stories. I'll be a regular. I think I love you :))

You've read paranormal erotica, but unless it had zombies banging their way through Sin City, I promise you've haven't really read it. Author of love that goes bump in the night, Olivia Starke, is making a name for herself, giving paranormal fiction new life--or should I say, "infecting it" with a modern twist. Check out her new series, Zombies in Vegas on my blog.

I am so excited right now. I am having my short story professionally edited. This is a first time for me. A first step towards professionalism! When the story is completed I hope to shop it around to publications accepting submissions for my type of writing. I am working on making a name for me out in the publishing and reading worlds. I want some street cred before my big stuff is put out there.

I just received this assignment and have been working on it. Try this and see what happens. This a really amazing exercise!

Pick one of your original stories or scripts. Flip to the middle of that
story. If your story is three pages, that means go to the middle of page two. If your story is 90 pages, that means go to page 45. Now, pick the most dynamic paragraph, conversation or character action or interaction
from the middle of that page. It can be a few lines or a couple paragraphs.
Imagine this is the new beginning of your story! For the purposes of this discussion, this is where your story sets into motion. It does not have to be clear from the few lines that you post what your story is about. Often, stories that begin in medias res can be mysterious, intense, even confusing—but there has to be something about the beginning
the compels the reader (or viewer) to want to know more.

I've  been working on a story I've tentatively titled The Ride. I'm not happy with it and I don't think it really fits the story so I came up with a few more. I'm going to post the alternative titles here. On my SheWrites page I have posted most of the first chapter. You could skim through that to get an idea of my story. My genre is horror. Here are the titles:

The Psycho Stalks At Midnight and Other Times of the Day

When Bad Things Happen To Good Girls

Get Out Of My Life, But First Could You Take Me Home?

I’ve Been Abducted: P.S. I Could Use Some Help

Don’t Talk to Strangers

I Scream You Scream, We All Scream for I Scream

Kidnap or Abduction? I Didn’t Know the Difference, But Now I Do

Desert Survival Guide for The Abducted

Things That Happen To You When You Make Poor Decisions

Hello!  I'm happy to be a member of the group.  I'm new to horror writing, but not new to reading it.  (Shirley Jackson is my favorite.)  My horror/paranormal books, "The M Series," will be published in 2012.
