Hello Mother Writers!

I hope this new year is keeping you healthy, happy and inspired. If you read the interview on The Bees Knees http://nicelledavis.wordpress.com/bees-knees-speacial-editions/ last month you'll remember that Nicelle had the idea to put together Mother Writer! t-shirts.

I thought this sounded like a fun idea, but so far nothing has taken shape. As you are aware, circumstances in the world took a frightening turn this week as we saw the devastation left by the earthquake in Haiti.

So, I am proposing Mother Writer! t-shirts with all proceeds going to Doctors Without Boarders.

I have a friend who is a very talented graphic designer willing to work with us, but I need something from you in return.

First, I need to know if there is interest. Secondly, we need a slogan. I am opening the floor to you,

Please post your suggestions below.

My very best to you and yours,

Victoria

Interest yes!

"L’union fait la force." is the Haitian motto and it means Unity is Strength. That could be a motto for Haiti and for the power of words well written...

My Haitian former nanny, and dear friend who lives up the street from me, and who is my childrens rock star super hero includes this phrase in all of her messages about soliciting aid for her homeland. You can get to her blog here: http://whichprinter.wordpress.com/2010/01/14/help-my-homeland/
Thank you, Catherine. And, oops! I meant Doctors Without Borders. I'm blushing terribly.
Dear Victoria,

What fun! I think "Mother Writer" says it all.
I am interested and will see if I can find other sites / publishers to help promote the T-shirt fund raiser.
The Bees' Knees would be happy post a link for people to purchase the shirts.

Thanks,
Nicelle
I think this is a brilliant notion. I can't think of anything better than Mother Writer! (perhaps with some kind of image - I would just vote it be ethnically inclusive) perhaps with Catherine's suggestion "L'union fait la force" on the back and something in small writing like "standing in solidarity with the people of Haiti" or "in support of the people of Haiti" or some such?

In case people are interested, here is a link to a lovely lecture by Edwidge Danticat focusing on the strength and stories of Haiti: http://www.ted.com/talks/edwidge_danticat_stories_of_haiti.html
THANK YOU for this link. Gorgeous. (I haven't listened to the entire thing because the boys would prefer to watch skate boarding on YOU TUBE.) But I have posted it to my bog, and given you the credit for sharing it.

I like your Mother Writer and Standing in solidarity.. line. I would love to have their slogan included to keep the language alive too.
Ok, I have a design in progress. Looking for someone to actually make the shirts and wishing for them to be kind-hearted. If anyone has suggestions of places you may have worked with before it would be helpful. I'm wondering, though, if there is more interest in the shirts out there?
I'm interested! And I love the idea of the Haitian slogan.
Hi Mamas,

If you've noticed Mother Writer's new tattoo, that is the logo for the T-shirts!
Mother Writer shirts can be ordered here! All proceeds benefit Doctors Without Borders.
AWESOME! thank you! Will be ordering soon!
Fabulous! I will order a shirt.

How long are you going to be selling these? I want one but have to wait until payday.
