I'm having my first baby in eleven weeks. As an already established professional writer, used to going to conferences, traveling to book festivals and to do readings, I'm facing a big change in my life! None of these things include babysitting or make it obvioius that a small child is welcome. So I'm curious...Does anybody know if there are mom-friendly (that is, kid-friendly) writers' conferences?
I am completely on board for this if it should happen or if it is ever found. It's tough enough for one of us to get away--nearly impossible for both my husband and I to go. And since I'm the main childcare person in the house, I'd love to have others take care of them while I learn / write / network...without having to connive my husband into going too!
Well, I may try to organize something like this in the Bay Area (California) in a couple of years. I'd try to organize it at a place where there is affordable housing for out-of-towners. We'll see. My baby is 8 weeks old, I'm going on book tour starting in another month, and I just need to get through all of that first. :-)
Sending you good vibes and energy for your tour and being a mama too. I applaud you for remembering that your creativity and professional life are still important to nurture, while also needing to care for a babe so young!!!
