I blogged about the loss of my Mother-in-law this week. It was a hard post to write as my wife is still very much grieving her loss as am I. I would love to hear your feedback. This is the first time I've hesitated before posting and felt like my heart was really being put on the internet.

Hi Kristin,
Sorry about your loss. I endured a loss recently and understand how painful it can be. You are a good wife to let your spouse have her moment to grieve.
My last week's blog was about my father's loss. I think the holidays really bring out these types of writings at least it does for me

Hi, Kristin,
I am so sorry for your loss. No matter how long ago loss occurs, it leaves an undeniable imprint our who lives. Writing about this subject is very brave and a great step in the healing process. I am publishing an anthology on motherhood and loss (if you are interested, here is more information about it) and a recurring theme you touched on is how experiences of loss are always with us and do seem like they were "just yesterday." As writers, exploring loss is one way we cope, but as you point out, the pain never really diminishes no matter how long ago the loss occurred. Another benefit of writing is that it is such a wonderful way to remember and honor the ones who have passed on--your writing about Shirley allows even strangers to bear witness to her remarkable life, and the role she played in yours and others lives. And your discussion of how Shirley is still in your thoughts and the reminders she has left in her wake when she clearly announces "I am here!" gave me chills!
Take care,
Melissa
