Hey Mother Writers! I'd love to know what you think of the post I wrote today at the SW Blog for my She Writes on Fridays column. It's called "Through the Maternal Looking Glass" and is hooked, remotely, to the now notorious Honey Don't Bother piece and the forum also appearing this week at the Times on judgmental motherhood. I linked to the awesome letter Mother Writer! member Debby Carroll wrote and sent to the Times. I'd love to know what you think, via comments!

Ack! That didn't come out right. It's a response to "Honey, Don’t Bother Mommy. I’m Too Busy Building My Brand."

The rest is on my blog: http://www.patriciacaspers.blogpspot.com

I loved the NYT piece... it hits a particular nerve with me, as my blog (and proposed book subject) is at the heart of the mommy war debate. I'm a big fan of both Waldman and Warner, so it was cool to hear their 2 cents...

Hi Brooke, Thanks for your input but I'm giving it a try anyway.

Hi fellow moms, I'm new to this forum and posting this while my teenager is upstairs doing his homework and rocking the floor with his itunes.

I've just had a novel published and am trying to get writing time for the sequel, amid family chaos and my own post-partum effect from the novel promo.

Love to hear ideas, insights, whining, and inspiration from others negotiating family and creative life.

Got a blog for writers at http://HowtoPlanWriteandDevelopaBook. blogspot.com if anyone's interested in taking a peek at some pretty cool writing exercises for book writers (moms and others).

BJ- I rarely ever think self-publishing is the way to go. If you are doing it because no regular publishers picked up your book then really reconsider. Traditional publishers know the industry and what sells. I used to do PR for self-published books and most were a wreck (like 99% or more). So even if your book isn't, that's what people think of when they think self-published. There are a few success stories, but it is really hard to be one of them, and the money you invest is a lot for what you are getting.

To be honest, I kind of like it when the Times is condescending to Sarah Palin and the Tea Partiers. Condescending to me and other parents, not so much. I can imagine the reporter pitching the Mommyblogger story to her editor, though. The voice of the Times is smart-alecky, and that's what I love about it.

Read the NYTimes Mommy Blogger article and loved it! Changing the world and parenting! It was lonely out there when i was raising kids. A few of us clung to each other b/c we wanted to make a difference and liked being home with our kids.
