The Right to Write, or Whose Story is This Anyway?

As I work on my newest project, an essay (and eventually a book) that tells the story of my grandmother's 17-year forced exile to Siberia, I worry about cannibalizing others' memories. What is a biographer's or memoirist's responsibility is to those whose lives intersect with her work? To read more and to comment on this question, come visit: http://julijasukys.com/

With the state of suffering in this world, let us remind ourselves and our children to highlight the creative urges that bring us our greatest joys.

For MotherWriters in the D.C. area, we have a gang of merry SheWriters going out for wine after my Four Ms. Bradwells reading tomorrow night. Do join us. It's definitely a motherhood book - about how our moms inspire us and how we inspire our daughters - so will be plenty of mom chat afterwards, as well as plenty of writing chat.

Dayton, Cincinnati, Raleigh and Chapel Hill, I'm headed your way later this week, and would love to connect.

I am teaching an online critical reading class for 4-5th graders through Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and am finding that it is really hard for kids to learn how to 'read between the lines'. I am curious, how do you do this with your kids?

I haven't written fiction yet, but I have heard that the characters can start to have a mind of their own.

My first published book, Choosing to Grow: Through Marriage, has just grown a personality. It took over my blog this morning...The Book Speaks...

I'm off to check out what everyone else has been up to.

Are a poet? I am not, but I looooove poetry. April is Poetry month and I would like to showcase some great poetry on my blog through out the month to celebrate it. If you are interested please email me own of your poems or a favorite poem.
