The season (hockey, that is) is set to begin!  But first, a few warnings:   http://wp.me/ppYA8-de

The monsters we encounter as adults are much scarier than the ones we imagine as children.

Catherine, thanks for you feedback. I forgot to mention in the post that my mom was a school librarian until she retired, so they all have a place in my heart. Let me know which book you pick for your students and if they give you any good insights. Happy BBW!

Thank you Susan! I worry about that a lot - losing the language - not just for my children's sake but also because a lot of religious and cultural literature are written in these older languages and if we don't preserve them, who will? thanks again for your kind words.

Susan, Great to see you keeping BBW ALIVE in the priority department, and I love your first line about librarians as the hero! Our school librarian is REMARKABLE in this and every area. So I'll make sure to remind her of that this week. Maybe I'll get her flowers and connect the two :) I'm going to have my students pick a book off the list, and tell me what they think they would have missed if they didn't read that book... You inspire!

I'm in such a lather about Banned Books Week that I wrote two posts about it: one here on SheWrites about banned books and children; and one on Two Kinds of People on how to observe Banned Books Week, which includes links to a blog hop on the subject. Are you "celebrating"?
