Why don't we ever put our writing first?

Started by Rachel Blau. Last reply by Geri Gibbons Oct 5, 2012. 18 Replies

Why is it that we seem to let our dreams and desires get pushed to the back burner?  I remember being little and had a list a mile long of things I wanted to try, and be, and create.  There wasn't…Continue

A Hobby?

Started by C. L. Kay Dec 6, 2011. 0 Replies

Sometimes I'll tell someone that I'm a writer.  Then as the discussion progresses I tell that person I don't write for a living (yet).  They usually respond by saying, "so writing is your hobby?" …Continue

Do you think about your audience as you write?  Do you write simply for the story and characters, following where they take you?  Maybe your approach is somewhere in between.  It was brought to my…Continue

I'm struggling with NaNo today!  I just can't concentrate.  I've written a few hundred new words and would like to end the day at 2500.  How is it going for you?

I'm ready too! I'm not quite as scared about it as I was in November, simply because I've went through it before and survived.   I'm still a tad nervous though.  Any challenge of this magnitude comes with a bit of anxiety.  But we're all in it together this time!  So exciting!  1 month = 50k Words.  It CAN be done.

Jan, first of all...Wow, that is a huge compliment.  Thank you so much!  I love the Hunger Games trilogy and look to Collins (as well as Rowling, Martin, and LeGuin)  as motivation.  I agree that some of the first book lacks depth.  Could this be because of her target audience?  I don't know.  But regardless, I loved the story and the world she created.  You might like the sequals better, more depth, more action.  I can't wait for the movie!  I also can't wait for our next meeting!

Okay ladies... you know  I'm not a 'hater' but my socks fell flat when I read The Hunger Games. I know-I should have been writing but I wanted to experience the excitement that envelopes this series...boy was I disappointed! Now don't get me wrong; I applaud Ms Collins on her tenacity and hard work...actually, I want some of her fortitude...but the story left me flat...much like the characters. So the point of this rant is....(drumroll)....CLK,  your work is so much better that I can't wait for you to finish!!!!

Awesome!  I feel the same.  This has been one of the best things to happen to me in a long time.
