So, following the advice I heard on a SheWrites webinar, I offered my novel, The Summer of France, free on Kindle this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Before the free offering, I was ranked an abyssmal 248,000 on Kindle.
So far, nearly 700 people in the US, UK, Germany, France and Italy have downloaded my book. I'm hopeful that I'll reach 1000 before the offer ends Sunday at midnight.
My rankings have gone down consistently -- yay! I'm now listed at 574 on Kindle free.
I'd love it if any of you would download my novel to help my numbers, and I promise to report back to let you know if this giveaway worked for me with increased sales in the coming weeks.

I've published on Kindle (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Ddigital...) and have been messing with prices. Some tell me "Don't sell yourself cheap," some say "it's too expensive." I say the price at which it sells is the right price, be it $1 or $100. But what do I know? I'm new at this!
Permalink Reply by Wendi Nitschmann on February 17, 2013 at 10:21am Good luck Paulita! I've got it and look forward to reading it. I am planning to do the same thing next month so please do let us know how it works out!

Permalink Reply by Petrea Burchard on February 17, 2013 at 11:32am Thanks, Mary, I've downloaded yours, too. Best of luck to us all! I'd be interested to hear what your results are, too. Looks like so far, so good.
Permalink Reply by Paulita Kincer on February 17, 2013 at 4:13pm Mary, I downloaded yours and I look forward to reading it. Mine moved up to #5 under fiction/genrefiction/familylife, so it feels good to see those numbers go up for book downloads or down for ranking.
Permalink Reply by E.C. Diskin on February 17, 2013 at 11:22am Done--I'll be publishing later this spring, so I'm anxious to hear how this works out as well. The reviews you have look really good, so I look forward to reading it as well.:) Good luck--
Permalink Reply by Mary Rowen on February 17, 2013 at 1:12pm Hi Paula,
Thanks for posting this--it's so encouraging. I need to sign up for KDP Select, I think, before I can download it, correct? I'm traveling now, but will do that asap and download your book. I'm also happy to post a review.
Would you consider doing the same for me? My paperback novel, LIVING BY EAR is being converted to a Kindle file as we speak, and I'll soon be offering it free as well. Here's the link to it:

Thanks so much!

Permalink Reply by Petrea Burchard on February 17, 2013 at 2:19pm Mary, all you need for downloading Kindle books is a Kindle. I don't know much about the device itself, but you can get Kindle as a free app on most computers. I have one on my iPhone and on both my desktop and laptop Macs. Pretty sure you can get them for the PC, too. Once you download it, go back to Paulita's Amazon link and try downloading it there. If I remember correctly, it's really easy.

Permalink Reply by Paulita Kincer on February 17, 2013 at 4:14pm Petrea, That's right. You can even go to the page where the book is and click on the link "download to my PC"
Done. Here's the link to Paulita's book on Amazon UK http://www.amazon.co.uk/THE-SUMMER-OF-FRANCE-ebook/dp/B009KE81FS/ for anyone that needs it. It does work to the extent that you should see some increased sales activity immediately following the promotion, especially if you reach the top 100 free. It's best to run the promotion mid-week ending on a Thursday for at least 2 days as Fridays and weekends are best for sales. The World LIterary Cafe website gives further advice on these promotions.
Permalink Reply by Paulita Kincer on February 17, 2013 at 4:15pm Ruth, Thanks for including the UK link and for the advice. The webinar I listened to said to run the promotion on a weekend, preferably a holiday weekend. We'll see how it goes and if sales increase afterwards.
