Hi everyone, though I had only just begun my novel (mind you I could say I began it years ago really....) I haven't done any more character development on it for a week now because I decided that since I am a complete beginner I really need to learn some basics first...like structure, plotting, dialogue, etc. With this in mind I decided to begin my 'education' by writing a 10,000 word serialized story. This is quite a learning curve, and though I know that there is a world of difference, and now just in length, between short stories and novels, still I am hopeful that the techniques learned there will transfer to my novel writing. Having said that today I have been itching to get back to my novel.......But I am heading over first to check out a link to plotting which I shall post in the thread “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers”. Just been a member of this group gives me hope.......!! :-)x
Here's my intro. I am a relatively new writer, starting writing fiction less than five years ago. I was trying to write family stories down for the kids and other family who have asked but never heard all the stories. I got bored writing straight factual family history, so decided to spice it up. Hence, my foray into fiction. I have published medical articles and one personal essay, but to date have had no fiction published.
My current project is an historical novel based on family stories based mostly in Poland spanning the years 1930-1990. I started it after a question from a friend, "Have you ever heard of the Katyn massacre?" To which I replied yes and began to tell him the story of my mother's cousin. He said, "You need to write that down. It is too important to go unsaid." So I switched from the series of travel stories I had been writing to this project and have been working on it for 2 years. In that time, I have started taking writing classes, joining groups, etc.
Since this is the official "intro" post, I suppose it would be a good idea to say something here.
I'm Samantha and I'm currently going through the final editing and formatting phase for my summer release "The Secret of the Storm". It is a supernatural suspense with a dash of romance set in a fictional New England college town.
I am also in the midst of drafting two other projects. One is a second novel, unrelated to the first, which deals with a fallen angel. The other is the steampunk web-fiction series that I co-author.
What can I say, I keep busy. :-)
I guess I didn't really introduce myself on my last post, but since the is the "official" introduction thread here I go:
I'm 18 years old and I've been writing for most of my life. Obviously I'm female though for some reason my aunt thought I was transgender for the longest time (Apparently wearing boy clothes and being more comfortable around males means I'm confused about my gender).
Right now I'm working on about 12 novels, three of which are being slowly edited, but the one I came up with last night and am working on diligently is a humor murder mystery (A six or seven year old boy asks his dad to tell him a bedtime story about murder, so he does but in a very sarcastic way so he doesn't scare the crap out of his son, and it turns out this actually happened to the dad (he's one of the characters) not that long ago). I mostly write in fantasy, so this is going to be a weird journey for me!
I'm also working on getting a fantasy story about demons published, but I have to finish editing it first, which isn't as easy as it might look. It has a lot of things I need to work on.... Another book I'm going to be publishing next year is the first book of a trilogy I mentioned in my earlier post which I finished, and another one which is going through edits right now but I'm going to wait to publish until I'm a well known author is a romantic comedy.
So, comedy and dark fantasy. Those are what I write.
That's basically me without going into my life story. The first thing I wrote was a one page story when I was 5, and that just expanded into my multiple novels.
I'm willing to let anyone read anything I write (as long as I don't post it in a public forum) so if you're interested let me know!
*waves* Hey stranger. :)
Sorry, my daddy says I'm not allowed to talk to strangers >.< But if you were a friend who I talk to on like, three different sites, that would be okay ;)
lol. Hello Friend. :)
Oh, hello :D
I was just wondering with all those works in progress, how many finished works do you have? I'd be happy to read any of your completed stories. Were you looking for any general comments/critique or editing?
Sincerely, Carole Avila
I've finished, technically, four novels, but all of them need editing. I'm planning on self-publishing one of them in August (hopefully). General comments/critiques or whatever you want to do would be great if you're willing! Would I do anything in return? (I don't expect you to help for free, of course :) )
I am new to the group and have enjoyed reading many of your posts. My most recent work is a fun time-travel western adventure, and I’m currently looking (praying, too!) to have it published. My “opus” is a non-fiction book on sexual abuse that is currently being written for a small press.
Several of my short fiction works, autobiographical stories, and poems have received local awards and they’ve been published –but getting a novel published is my biggest goal. Most of my stories come in dreams, or when I’m between books, I set my hands on the keyboard and let my imagination go wild!
I’m almost finished with a marketing management degree that I wanted to get to help promote my books when the time comes. I look forward to sharing anything related to writing with whomever is interested.
Sincerely, Carole Avila
