Novelists - published or not - chatting about beginnings, muddy middles, dang endings, what to do with it all. Please don't shout (all caps, big images) or post links on the main wall except as part of the conversation. Please do include modestly sized covers in "Our Published Novels"!

Gather for a real-tiime chat on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 EST for topic-based discussions about writing and publishing novels. To join us, just log into She Writes and click on the "Main Room" at the bottom right of your page. It will pop up the "Main Room" box, with the ongoing chat and a place to speak up yourself. If no one is chatting when you arrive, do just say hello.

I recently had my first novel published and must admit that while there isn't anything artistically wrong with the cover I just don't feel like it properly sells the story. The cover is for an…Continue

So, everything I have read indicates that it is imperative to have your WIP looked over by a professional prior to submitting to agents/publishers. Any good advice on how to find a reputable editor?…Continue

I'm with you Barbara, I would be interested in "family" friendly YA. G or PG. Mine is http://sherilswift.blogspot.com/
@ Jessica. Will do.
Comment by Lisa Gomley on March 19, 2012 at 12:00pm Hi! I just joined She Writes and was thrilled to see this group. However, I thought I fit into the ..."or not" category when it came to struggling. LOL...today I am seriously rethinking that. I finished my first novel last fall and then went through 6-8 drafts. I just entered it into a contest last Thursday so I was thrilled to dig into the next book. The first one came surprisingly easy so I assumed the second would also. Especially since I have had the story running through my head for almost as long as the first. Boy was I wrong!! I did some outlining (difficult for a pantser) but it did not help. I know that once I can get over the initial hurdle, or block, I will feel better. But not having gone through this with the first book...I am ready to pop the cork on the bottle of Pinot and it isn't even 1pm.
Any suggestions on breaking through the initial wall?
@ Petrea No problem, thanks.
@ Jessica I'll send the questions shortly.

Comment by Petrea Burchard on March 19, 2012 at 10:45am @Judith, probably too far, yes. Argh! I joined the LA writers group here but haven't put a message out yet. I should probably do so.
I began my blog four years ago before I knew what I was going to do with it. It has become a wonderful platform. I encourage those of you who try blogging to be patient, visit other blogs, comment when you have something to say about what the other blogger posted, and be respectful of your readers. It takes time to build a following but it also takes time to write a book, and by the time I publish I'll have this great following in place. Hopefully they won't leave in droves when I ask them to buy my book!
@ Jessica. Where do you want me to send the interview questions?
@ Petrea My novel is about a group of women who first met in high school in a small town in Northern California. Most of the story is set at Lake Tahoe. Is that too far from your focus geography?
@Karen If you give me your email address, I'll send you my interview questions. BTW, I commented on your cover on your website.
