Novelist group chat at 1 EST today! With apologies that I can't make it; I'm in the middle of working on something for a magazine editor.

Hello, this is my first novel also and I've never realized how many times I will end up revising it. I thought I was done with it but I wasn't satisfied and decided to rewrite it from the first person instead of the third. Now I am about two thirds done.

Hello - I've been gone for awhile, trying to get another round of edits through my novel. It's my first, so it's a learning process. Each version gets better, but I still have a ways to go before it's submittable. Connecting with other writers facing the same challenges may be exactly what I need.

Hi Allison, I'm about two-thirds of the way through, maybe a little more.  Have over 60,000 words.  Some chapters have been revised many times.  Others just sketched out.

Hi all, just joined She writes.  Here's the synopsis of the novel I'm working on - "From the Far Ends of the Earth."

What happens when a mother who has been holding a hopelessly dysfunctional family together mysteriously disappears?  This story of redemption and renewal is told through the perspectives of the family members left behind who work through their anger and grief, eventually learning to reconnect.  Kay is a "cranky" grad student studying archeology.   While distrusting men in general, and her father and brother in particular, she has been extremely close to her mother, who now leaves mysterious messages on Kay's answering machine.  Mourning her loss, Kay sifts through the shards and debris of childhood memories trying to understand the past and how to trust again. Cal is a drug addict who has spent most of his life on the street but is living at home when his mother disappears. He is deeply angry at being left alone with a father he fears, and mystified by the strange photographs his mother mails him.  When his father suddenly leaves, he is left on his own with a house to care for and no clue how to do it.  As Walter waits for his wife's return, he tracks her journey through Central and South America while paying her credit card bills, then decides to take his own long delayed trip to Alaska, where a new life awaits him.

Meg - not many attended today's chat, but I think it was successful. After a slow and quiet start, we introduced ourselves and what we were working on. We talked about government grants for writers, promoting our work on social media, book giveaways and book clubs - with the possibility of starting our own. Carrie Hansen said that she may work on the idea. I still like having the chat every week.

Congrats Barbara on the great review! :)

As for the chats, I can't make the current day/time so have no thoughts on weekly v. monthly. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to join in either way.

Would love it when you have a minute if anyone who was at the chat today would report in on how it went. I'm thinking that weekly is perhaps too often, and that we might go to once a month instead. Thoughts?
