Novelists - published or not - chatting about beginnings, muddy middles, dang endings, what to do with it all. Please don't shout (all caps, big images) or post links on the main wall except as part of the conversation. Please do include modestly sized covers in "Our Published Novels"!

I recently had my first novel published and must admit that while there isn't anything artistically wrong with the cover I just don't feel like it properly sells the story. The cover is for an…Continue

So, everything I have read indicates that it is imperative to have your WIP looked over by a professional prior to submitting to agents/publishers. Any good advice on how to find a reputable editor?…Continue

Comment by Irene Miscione yesterday Hi TD... I too had a similar experience. I got stuck mid-way and didn't know where to take the next chapter. I wrote the ending, which I was very pleased with, and the rest just came to me.
Comment by Marcy S Hatch yesterday @TD I recently had a similar experience. I was a little further along in my story but really plodding. Writing the end suddenly helped me fill in what I miss missing. I am now a mere five outlined chapters from the end :)
Cassandra - Inspiring news!!! I'm curious how the next steps unfold. I hope you and your book live happily ever after!
I got stuck around 60,000 words and just couldn't seem to wrap up my own second book. That's when I came up with the idea to cheat and skip to the end. I wrote the epilogue and that gave me the direction I needed to fill in the last 1/3 of the story. Hope it helps.
Comment by Dana Alexander yesterday So very thrilled for you Cassandra! Congratulations and Cheers!
Comment by Myrna Loy Ashby yesterday Congratulations, Cassandra! Enjoy, enjoy!
Comment by Helen W. Mallon yesterday So, so, so cool. We are all standing with you in your shoes (with only a soupcon of envy). Revel in it!
Comment by Mary Rowen yesterday Congratulations, Cassandra! And congratulations to you too, Rysa! Wow, it's been a few weeks since I've been on these boards--we got a new dog; enough said--and all kinds of great stuff has been happening. All best wishes to both of you, and Rysa, I'll be voting for you in the Amazon contest!
Comment by B. Lynn Goodwin yesterday I'd love to be able to remember my dreams, but they disappear faster than an Oreo cookie or Eddie's doggie treats.
Comment by Rysa Walker yesterday I do that too, Fiona. And sometimes, I end up crawling out of bed to go write it, just in case it's gone by morning ;)
And I totally agree with your advice. Write something else for awhile until you're back at the happy spot with WIP #1. Unless, of course, WIP#2 is screaming "Finish me first!"
