Comment by Marilyn Bostick on February 25, 2012 at 9:58pm All of you have me so excited about writing and the future. You are all marvelous and inspirational! Thank you!
Comment by Marilyn Bostick on February 25, 2012 at 9:49pm I think my favorite authors are my favorites because they are so different from each other. I don't want us all to be the same. How boring would that be! When I open a book I want a new experience.

Love the quote!
@Marilyn...That's been my experience, too. I've mostly heard people say that it should begin with some action.
Comment by Marilyn Bostick on February 25, 2012 at 9:43pm @Regina,
I was getting confused by all the advice. For every "do this" there was a "don't it". I pick what works for me, but I did find out from one editor that their preference was action from the start.
Comment by Marilyn Bostick on February 25, 2012 at 9:38pm @Juliet,
I agree and I think the kind of story you are telling will dictate how it will begin.
Thanks, Regina. The photo on the cover of the book was taken by a friend of mine when we visited the actual site of the Plum Orchard plantation house (not the Carnegie mansion at Cumberland Island that bears the same name). Zabette was a real person with a fascinating life. I appreciate your comment.
