Comment by Niki Tulk on May 9, 2013 at 11:40am Thanks so much Jessica! I do feel there is a deep seismic shift going on in the writing of women and others "othered" by mainstream cultural media ...and I am proud to be sharing that journey with some many incredible artists, thinkers and activists.
Comment by Jessica Vealitzek on May 9, 2013 at 11:31am Niki - love your point of view, esp: "I feel as if I am a part of a shift in our world, that is about reclaiming what is ours—our stories, dreams, and the ways we choose to share these with each other." Couldn't agree more!
Comment by Niki Tulk on May 9, 2013 at 11:14am Thank you so much, you beautiful writing women, for the supportive comments! You all understand the journey, which never seems to stop being HUGE, in every way. Big special thanks to fellow-writers Deborah, Olga, Yolanda, Lynne and Helen. Your comments have lifted my soul today. Peace.
Comment by Deborah J. Brasket on May 9, 2013 at 10:55am Wow, Nikki--loved the interview, and your advice on writing: "I think that as women we are conditioned extremely thoroughly to adjust to what we perceive others want/expect from us, and our writing is a tender sacred thing that needs to “sound its barbaric yawp” without fear nor favor. So care for your “voice” and let it grow strong before subjecting it to the scrutiny of others."
Also love the fact that you have created your own independent publishing agency as a way to advocate for the rights of artists and the "return storytelling to the community." I am so impressed. Not least of all is the subject of your book, which sounds fascinating. I for sure will be getting it.
Comment by Olga Godim on May 9, 2013 at 10:27am Niki, great interview! I just added your book to my to-read list on GoodReads.
Comment by Deborah J. Brasket on May 9, 2013 at 7:46am I blogged this week about my WIP, which includes an excerpt that was adapted to be a short story and recently published in an online journal. I'd love to get some feedback on the short story and the premise for the novel. You can read my blog post with links to the story here: http://deborahbrasket.wordpress.com/2013/05/05/when-things-go-missing/ or at this direct link from Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/extreader/read/309691/1/uncharted-fronti... Mine is the first story "When Things Go Missing"
Comment by Yolanda Renee on May 9, 2013 at 7:34am Cassandra, congratulations! Own that title -- writer, author -- you've earned it!
Comment by Yolanda Renee on May 9, 2013 at 7:27am Niki, Congratulations, I would love to hear more about the small press. Good luck with what sounds like a very intriguing book! On my TBR list.
Comment by Lynne Favreau on May 9, 2013 at 7:16am Nikki-that's a great interview, thanks for sharing it.
Comment by Helen W. Mallon on May 9, 2013 at 6:59am Nikki, Absolutely roll in the glory. Lord knows, writers spend enough time doubting ourselves!
