Hi! I'm glad to be here! I honestly didn't think I would get accepted into 'She Writes' because I don't have a bunch of professional credentials behind my name. So I was pleasantly surprised when I…Continue

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the people on this site! I joined Absolute Write around the same time as She Writes and I HATE it. The people on there are so rude and I'm just sick of…Continue

Fellow authors, I know that we are a dime a dozen. However, we all have to start somewhere. This is my way of jumping into the foray and seeing what happens. I'm a novelist. In fact, I write suspense…Continue

Hi All!I am sure this is common. I'm feeling spread too thin. My first novel was released in April. Pre-sales were great, but now it's lagging. I'm feeling torn between committing time to promote the…Continue

Comment by Mark Hughes on May 26, 2013 at 8:06am I'll echo the continuing recommendation for Elements of Style. Some of its teachings I ignore these days, but the large percentage is still quite useful and valid, IMHO. I don't use the Writer's Market any longer, though I did years ago. These days, my sources are PubMarket and Query Tracker, as well as the Writer's Digest listing for agents. To me, those websites have made the Writer's Market book largely redundant. I also agree that a check of an agent's website is critical. For one, that's where they post (sigh, far too often) that they've closed to queries.

Comment by V. B. Bernard on May 26, 2013 at 7:34am I have one more question Fellow Writer Friends.
How do you feel about 'The Elements of Style" by Strunk and White? Do you think it's become antiquated or if it's just as valid today as it was when it was written.
Thanks!
Comment by V. B. Bernard on May 26, 2013 at 7:31am Morning Fellow Writers!
Do any of you use the annual Writer's Market books?
Stephen King suggested them in his "On Writing" book. So I have been reading the "2013 Children's Writers and Illustrator's Market" and think its full of valuable information about marketing, writing, and a lot of other information.
What do you think? Have you use them? Have they helped you?
Also, what do you think are the best grammar books? I read "It Was The Best of Sentences, It Was The Worst of Sentences" by June Casagrande and am currently reading 'Sin and Syntax" by Constance Hale. They are both wonderful resources. But I'd love your suggestions too.
Thanks!

Comment by Kelly Hand on May 25, 2013 at 10:26pm Meg--What is truly inspiring about this recent boost in sales is that this is for a book you published years ago (I know because I just read the sample and bought it). It proves that an author's backlist can still have a lot of life in it. I know the companion book (not sure sequel is the right word here) to this is coming out soon, so this is a shrewd move on the part of Random House. Hope this helps to build the audience for your forthcoming book. I think it will . . .
Comment by Dana Alexander on May 25, 2013 at 9:21pm Huge congrats, Meg. So happy for you! I think your guest will understand if delivery is on the menu. :)
Comment by B. Lynn Goodwin on May 25, 2013 at 8:59pm How many ways can you say "Congratulations"? As many ways as there are languages I suppose. Since I'm not multi-lingual,I'll take a different road and say WTG! I'm honored to have had you on Writer Advice, www.writeradvice.com.
Comment by Mark Hughes on May 25, 2013 at 8:49pm My congratulations to Meg as well. Then, with regard to query critique, I suggest AQ Connect. It's a very active query evaluation community.
